Northern European here 👋 I’ve always found the wild west culture very very interesting. The movies and video games about that time are amazing. I would kill to see this with my own eyes. Greetins from Finland! 🇫🇮

Greetings! That time period with how things were and the desert climate is very fascinating. From Red Dead Redemption to Clint Eastwood films, I think there is a lot to experience. Hopefully one day you can see them for your own eyes. I would love to see Finland and other places in Europe, however I am cursed with the fear of flying. So I'm limited on just driving to places in North America....One of these days I need to get over that fear.

@@TheMadNomadder Finland might not be the best for tourists because there is nothing to see here. Well, world war 2 and and some Swedish kingdom history but that’s it. But Finland is extremely safe for kids as well as adults and you won’t get scammed ever. And I used to be afraid of flying when I was younger but I don’t anymore. In my case the fear was caused by my lack if knowledge! If you can’t overcome it, try alcohol haha. Americans are always welcome to Finland. Now even more because your country helped us with NATO. Visit northern Finland (Lapland) in the winter if you wanna see real northern European culture!

That town that their in isn't a real ghost town, that was a mining settlement and there were never any permanent structures. The men that worked the mines stayed out there in tents. I'm not a hundred percent sure but I don't think the place was called goldfield either

Thanks for posting! These old ghost towns are amazing. I live near a very dilapidated one near Red Rock, AZ (Pinal Cty) called Sasco. The remains of the old smelter, Hotel Rockland, old jail and living miner living quarters are still there. There's an old graveyard that almost no one knows about up the hill from the smelter. Creepy and cool.
@TheMadNomadder
@TheMadNomadder 3 жыл бұрын
Yes they are great to venture out to. I had to look up Sasco. I was thinking that this was more near Sedona, but its closer to Tucson/Phoenix. Never heard of it. We may have to take a glance one of these days if we make it back that direction. We are starting to plan this years trip, if everything opens, so we can drive across country. Still not sure what states have travel restrictions yet. I just love everything about the southwest and that late 1800's time period. Thanks again for teaching me something new today!

@@TheMadNomadder Have you been to Ruby Mine in Santa Cruz Cty? We were thinking that might be a fun day trip. Love your content, thanks much.
@TheMadNomadder
@TheMadNomadder 3 жыл бұрын
Most of the ghost towns I have information from in that area comes from a book I bought on Amazon: Ghost Towns Of The Southwest by Hinkley And James. It mentions Ruby near Pena Blanca Lake. Theres stories about robbers trying to take 5 gold teeth from a person dying there. So there is not a lot of info in this book regarding Ruby. Maybe 4 pages with some pictures. Definitely may be a fun day trip if you go. I got a video I have to edit sometime when we went to Wyoming - South Pass City- They restored it a bit, my problem with releasing it is the inside of the buildings had protective plastic a foot or two when you go in the buildings and the sun glare made the insides too reflective. So I got to decide how much editing needs done. I've learned a lot since a few years ago.

The buildings here are not original or even old for that matter. They were mostly built using reclaimed wood from a deconstructed stamp mill in New Mexico. The site itself was home to a true 19th century mining town that was destroyed. However, that being said it's still a great place to visit, I go to the saloon there fairly often.

We'd like to go back. I'd actually like to go in the places next time and take a look around. Either I was there too early or it was closed for the season. I read some commenters below saying they close for the season in the summer. Unfortunately thats the only time I can get vacation time.

This is a modern tourist attraction built on the site of an actual ghost town/gold mine. I own some property about a mile southeast and you can hear the train horn in the distance and also echoing off the western face of the superstition mountains(Supes). With the occasion snort of horses common here this area has a definite 1880's western vibe. It is a real desert with real critters. Please do not plan to hike during the summer as it does kill folks. However, from November to April the weather is typically great for hiking. The siphon draw trail will take you to the top of the Supes.
@TheMadNomadder
@TheMadNomadder Жыл бұрын
I would love to visit during the winter months. We don't do much hiking because my wife is in kidney failure and we are both scared of running into rattlesnakes. So we make the most out of where she is able to go. A lot of it is just driving trips. This year, we just went to Colorado to see some of the Gold Mines up there. There is just something about Arizona/Utah that makes us want to come back.

3:53 😱OMG, doesn't nail the horseshoes upside down, that brings bad luck! This nails the circle upwards to the wall. Uh, I hadn't seen the noose, it's completely Cursed.😱 Now I understand why some people say that the place is haunted at night 🙃... Well between us be told if things just only happen at night it's curious for a haunted place lol.😋 It's very pretty, but it's very "for tourists", the atmosphere is too busy, on the sides you have a whole bunch of heterogeneous objects which sometimes have nothing to do with each other and which for certain deserve to be scripted instead of burning in the sun and rusting, but as it is "from era" it is to throw here and there; right in the middle of objects that are clearly not old and it looks like a fly in a pot of honey, such as plywood boxes. If there were less of a mess along the back alleys, it would be more real.

Its definitely "touristy". When we venture out west, we try to go to different old west towns. I'm editing a video now on South Pass City, Wyoming....which I believe they have renovated as well, but not quite as souvenir filled as this place. I like the look and feel of these towns and I'm glad they are maintaining them for folks to visit. I don't know how many folks will ever make it to places like Rhyolite in Death Valley or Belmont Nevada to explore. On the east coast there isnt as many places like this, most around here are either old abandoned coal mining towns or maybe Centralia, Pennsylvania.

It was nice just seeing the place like a true ghost town. I do wish the stores were open. After we went across the road a bit we heard the train whistle, so they must have opened when we were visiting the Superstition Mountains.

I'm not sure if everything is still original, the town itself was established in 1893. I think about 1926 it was officially the end for the town.

I believe it was a Saturday or Sunday morning around 8-9 am in August. We left our hotel in Chandler and made this our first stop of the day. We were very surprised that we had the whole place to ourselves which was nice. We had the superstition mountains museum pretty much to ourselves as well.

LOL At least we had the town to ourselves, so I was happy for a little bit. I had plans to go up to Cerro Gordo in California, but a guy bought it and i dont know if they allow tours of the place any more or what permissions i need to go through yet.

Technically it is....somewhat. It was updated from what the original town was back in 1898. Since it was a mining town and the world moved on, the town became abandoned. It was also called Youngberg at one time I believe. Now thankfully they have it restored and opened for a tourist attraction since 1988 to give folks a glimpse of what life was like in the late 1800's.

Happens all the time on our travels. Either we went too early in the morning or they are not open on certain days of the week. The only thing opened was the coffee shop. The superstition mountains across from Goldfield has a museum that was opened and we went there after this.

ohsnapiam59 Its technically both. I support these types of places because some of the ghost towns need to be remembered, been to too many that has just a shack or two left and nothing more and eventually will fall to decay and forgotten. At least making them a tourist destination, one can see the architecture of the buildings and open jobs in that area.
