I highly recommend the shortwave ebook. It was made available around the time I was really getting interested in tube radio repair and restoring and was one of my first books. Later when I purchased the other book you have on radio, it helped make more sense of what was going on. Admittedly it was a little complex to understand at first but as I learned it gave me a great reference to go to and really did help. I would also recommend to anyone interested in this hobby to buy a copy of the other book, "All American Five Radio", as it lays out the basic radio format we all enjoy. Thanks Rick. Carl

Hi, another great tutorial. As a very green learner, I tried to download the ebook as it would be a great resource but the download wouldn't work. If its no longer downloadable, id still love to be abe to purchase it, if this is an option. Again, thankyou for all the time you put in to teaching us that are very keen to keep learning. Cheers, Darren, Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.

Quick question: What level of sensitivity should I expect for an All American Five radio? For a GE model 400 radio that I am restoring, the signal at the antenna needs to be above about -40 dBm (3 mV RMS into 50 Ohms) in order to hear the station clearly. This seems high.
@AllAmericanFiveRadioАй бұрын
So I guess your volume and sensitivity are low. Have you tested all the tubes? I’ll be glad to help in troubleshooting your radio. I would need te voltage at each plate of each Tube. My email is allamericanfiveradio@yahoo.com make the subject GE400. The specification for the 12SA7 is below. 12SA7 frank.pocnet.net/sheets/127/1/12SA7.pdf

Shouldn't the power switch be in series with the hot lead, and a polarized plug?
@AllAmericanFiveRadio2 жыл бұрын
This was made before polarized power plugs, and other safety rules. That why I ALWAYS use an isolation transformer.

Appreciate the videos that you have on your channel and the sharing of your knowledge on working with these vintage radios. I am working on my first restoration of a 1955 Arvin 842T radio that my father had kept away in his storage and was wondering what gauge of antenna wire were used on these sets? I would like to try and replace it since a lot of the cloth insulation is almost gone from it. Thanks for your time.
@AllAmericanFiveRadio8 жыл бұрын
+isle hikes Usually under the cloth cover the wire is insulated with lacquer, if this is the case I would just leave it alone.

Can you hook an oscilloscope directly to the plates on a tube radio?? I might have ask you this before, I cant remember...excellent video..I did ask you..sorry about that..but my scope say's it can handle 300 volts DC and I believe the plate voltage is around 250 volts.
@macgvrs6 жыл бұрын
How would you define a n AA5 radio? There seems to be differing opinions on that .
