@@Clemdauphin as you mentioned i have to say that the doctrine of day bombing could have worked for the Lancaster. You see the British were developing a long range spitfire. This was cancelled due to the incompetence of a few in high command. This also could have saved hundreds of American lives too. But alas. The learning of the project was took and put onto the p51.

Most People don’t know this but the B-17 had outer pylons for wing and undercarriage bomb racks which gave it a maximum payload of 8,800kg and a lil more in later models.
