Prof. my question is off topic I have a question that I couldn't find the exact answer on internet. Could you please explain why cyclooctatetraene [8] annulene), [16] annulene, and [12] annulene exhibit non-aromaticity, whereas [14] annulene and [18] annulene shows aromaticity?

Stumbled upon your channel accidentally, and I'm so glad I did! You teach chemistry very well, and I've already learned so much from your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us

Thank you very much for your comments but sadly I’m not sure I can help you. I have not studied the material you are referring to in a long time and it’s not part of the specification I teach at the moment. Sorry I wasn’t able to help on this occasion.

@@mrmurraygreen That's okay, I'll try to find the answer on my own. Thank you for your time.

Hi Mr Murray-Green, Thank you so much for your amazing videos! I completed a 2023 Paper 3 and there was a cyclic diester question, it’s not on the spec so are we assumed to know this? Should we go further than the spec to reach the A* grades? Thank ylu
@mrmurraygreen8 ай бұрын
Hi, cyclic esters are not strictly on the spec (dimers aren’t generally but OCR seems to like them). This was application of knowledge on your knowledge of esters and the other info they framed it with in the question. Revising ‘off spec’ is hard tbh. Like, where do you start?! In my experience, those students who get A* grades are just very good at Chemistry. It’s not necessarily something you can revise specifically for. Make sure you use past papers but don’t obsess over them. When they go off spec, think about how your A-level knowledge was meant to be applied. This way you can look for what skills could be used next time.

One question, how many practicals should we be aware of writing a method for, e.g. the ones I have currently done are preparing standard solutions, syntehsis of organic liquid and solid, is there any more?
@mrmurraygreen8 ай бұрын
I would add to this those to do with rate of reaction e.g. continuous monitoring methods and initial rates method style pracs.
