Welp I answered my own question. Bedards base marquee rookie already selling for 70 US and pop and his /350 sold for 500 CAD. This is gunna be wild…

Hobby shop near me was basically giving these packs away at $4.5 a pack.I really appreciated them for that because it gave me the opportunity to buy 10 loose packs to open with my 4 year old without committing to a full hobby box at $125 a box online by the time I went. My son and I split up the 10 packs and opened them back and forth (like Christmas presents haha). In his second pack, he pulled a Bedard Premier. I was absolutely astonished, and we shared a moment that I will always remember. Additionally, out of his 5 loose packs, he pulled two /100 black TB Lightning retros (Hagel and Kucherov) and then I pulled a premier Leo Carlsson rookie and red boarder Travis Boyd. I'd say we really put a dent in that single hobby box for only $45(+tax and obviously no additional shipping cost). I think this will always be a memory for me and I took a picture of him with the pack and the card and I plan to give it to him when he's older! This hobby store owner said he's limiting loose packs purchases on Series 2 to two per person so everybody can get a chance. I think that's amazing of him to consider the young hobbyists.

Great personal anecdote. And, I love when LCS get creative like that. I know that distributors were limiting LCS boxes of OPC this year. So, the loose packs might be a function of that. My own LCS in Queens NY was only able to get seven boxes of OPC on release day, which I found astonishing for a mass produced product. So, he limited me to two boxes. Your packs were reminiscent of my second box.

I dont think this product will go down....maybe buying singles will, but unopened boxes will very likely keep rising over the years..

It was a general statement about seasonal sales. But, even for Bedard products, prices are high upon release, to cash in on the hype. Then they drop for seasonal sales, due to excess supply and mass printing. Finally, they go back up as boxes deplete over the long-term, and spike if it is a generational talent year. But, distributors have really tightened release day supply this year for OPC. So there are some shortages initially, which is weird. And middle-men will buy cases to post on eBay and shelve for later, because Bedard is perceived as a sure bet.

I wonder how much those low numbered bedards are going to go for compared to the draft day sp. all the # bedards in this set will be produced extremely less than that card. I wonder if their values will be similar.

The hype around Bedard is wild. I took a break from cards from like 2010 to 2019. Is Bedard’s hype higher than it was for McDavid? #Dryden

Well, my own thinking is Bedard is 100% legit. It's not every day that the youngest player ever puts up 50G is the WHL, and then the most points ever by a Canadian at the WJC as a U18 playing in a U20 tournament. I believe Bedard's UDS2 YG is overhyped, as it is a mass produced common. But, his rarer #'d and Auto RCs do merit a chase similar to 2005 and 2015, mindful there is way more printing and ppl in the hobby bow. And social media algos, present use of technology, push hype like there is no tomorrow.

Some places has this release date. Until next week
@Fultoncards10 ай бұрын
Hm. Steve, I noticed on ChecklistCenter it says February 14. I can ask Matt why he has that date. I bought a presale box from Dave & Adams for US $90. And, I just checked. It is in transit, and I should have it tomorrow.
@stevegobbo273710 ай бұрын
Beckett and cardboard connection has the release date next week. Everyone else has it tomorrow. I also noticed that these same sites that have the product releasing tomorrow has retail being released on the 14th. Perhaps Beckett and cardboard connection has the hobby release date confused with the retail release date. Guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Could be they confused the two. For all my graces, I'm terrible at tracking release dates. They are such a moving target.

@Fultoncards10 ай бұрын
I hear you, my friend. But let me say this. McDavid crushed his collar bone in his first year. I think his cards did well. These 23/24 boxes were US $90 at Dave & Adams. But, ppl are scooping them up, likely to stash. Release day prices are set by a combination of distributor thresholds, group break bulk purchases and then their multipliers for break spots (middle-man surcharges), and consumer demand for anything Bedard. This is why I think it is completely misguided to speak about "value." OPC has never been about value. It's for base set builders. The easter egg Bedard chase cards are product hits, so the average consumer will not recoup, given the mass production of OPC cases. What ppl are paying for is being able to partake in a landmark *hobby* event, in real-time. Orr, Lafleur, Gretzky, Mario, Crosby, McDavid, and Bedard only come around once a decade. If you want "value" simply target whatever cards you like directly on eBay with 100% certainty.
