‪@BMDPortraits‬ shares another realistic portrait drawing tutorial not with colored pencil (Colour Pencil) but with pastel pencils. I believe that every colored pencil portrait artists should try using pastel pencils because of so many reasons that i tried to explain on this drawing tutorial video. I will try to convince colored pencil portrait artists that pastel pencil is better in a lot of things compared to colored pencil although i am not saying that you should abandon colored pencil because colored pencil is great in hyper realistic skin tones and drawings. However trying pastel pencils may broaden your horizon as portrait artists as it offers another level of look, ease and artistry. My reference photo is Taylor Swift from her new album Midnights.

Thank You for this video. I have been specifically searching for left handed artists so I can learn how to train myself to use my left hand. Tonight the Lord led me to your channel and I am very blessed to have found such a gifted portrait artist who is also a left handed! I have severe nerve damage in my right arm, mostly in the hand & forearm, but there is also some on the left side too, so my hope is that I can become ambidextrous and switch from one side to the other as I need, so I can rest one side at a time. I hope the Lord will bless you as you have blessed me tonight. TreeZ'S

Haha Agree big time! 😃 You CAN slow down speed if clips on KZbin but I haven't been able to get it to work when I try casting it to my tv (??) Very good and useful video in all other ways 👍 It is meant as a compliment - if I couldn't see how good it was, I wouldn't have taken the time out of my life to ask you for a slower moving version - and that's for sure! 👍

When you use a backing sheet under your hands, you can avoid smudging. Best wishes from Germany. Pastel paper is pretty expansive, amazing idea with the gesso. I'll try that. 👍🏻

I enjoy your videos as they are quite informative (I do believe you speak a bit fast though- not all the time but often). Anyhow, I'm a long-time professional artist myself, and so I want to ask you, do you find it really necessary to use quite so MANY different colors (around 20 plus in this particular demo) in one portrait? For more beginner types, I can see that this could be a bit confusing. Of course each portrait, depending on the skin tone, will have its own color considerations. However, with, say, 15 or 20 plus colors in a single portrait (for skin tone alone), it seems almost redundant to have quite that many colors. What are your thoughts on that?
@BMDPortraits
@BMDPortraits 9 ай бұрын
Ur right, its not necessary, especially with colored pencils, but with pastel pencil like this one, I think I was trying to test the limits of the sanded paper, how much it can grab, and besides pastels are a lot quicker and easier to layer and blend compared to colored pencil...I definitely would not try this many pencils with colored pencil.
