A British show I had never heard of became my favorite show of all time over the course of a month. I've never been to England (American) but somehow this show makes me homesick for a place and time I've never experienced.

I finally got over there in 1988 for s scientific conference then skipped off.. Drove the entire length & breadth; spent 3 days poking about &: talking with farmers & shopkeepers. Had farm animals all my life even with a career in another field entirely. Stunning & enriching experience. Do go. Be prepared for hearty tea & solid food, cold & wet, scenery takes your breath away (the coastal fishing towns & Roman ruins). But leave room in your suitcase for a Jacob's sheepswool sweater hand-knit there 😉.

I read all the books as a child, then read them again. And Again. Finally this series was shown on American TV. Thankfully I purchased all the DVDs. Including the very first specials. To this day, All Creatures remains my favorite television show. I watch the entire series and specials at least 4 times a year. Thank You for putting up this documentary behind the scenes. I only today stumbled upon it. And yes will be watching it again.

I’ve read all of James Herriot’s books on which this series is based, and it’s absolutely brilliant! I’m from that part of the country although living on the south coast for almost sixty years now, and my home town of Darlington is actually mentioned on a couple of occasions in the books. When I was a child, my parents and I often went for weekend picnics to the countryside that’s described in the books and even though I’m not from a farming background, seeing all the beautiful Yorkshire countryside. featured in the tv series reminds me an awful lot of my childhood .

Love this show. Peter and Robert had great chemistry and were so believable in a role a lot of siblings take in real life, one might be a bit of an overachiever, the other might be a bit of a slacker. I love how often they would put poor James in the middle of their constant arguing. And Peter was supposed to only be in it for a few episodes, but after Christopher got hit by a car they had to give Tristan more to do! And even though it was certainly not pleasant for Chris, it was great that Peter was made a regular cast member!

My childhood was delightfully drenched in this BBC series for a new episode debuted on KPBS, Sunday at 9 pm, in the USA; KPBS repeated same episode Saturday early afternoon. I would watch with my childhood dog and just hug him through the entire series and could not wait to talk to my best friend about it. Her family did not watch public television so we checked books out of the library for her to compare what I'd been watching. What wonderful characters, actors, and stories to fill the imagination of a child that grew up in Los Angeles, on astroturf and in a white/celery colored home where nothing could be out of place. As an adult, I've always strived to have a bit of the James Herriot's Yorkshire Dales in my life including my dogs :) James Herriot; the author who keeps on giving! I do not believe this series was originally produced under Masterpiece Theatre will Allstair Cooke as our host. Allstair Cooke was such a an influence on my childhood, too. Love to the BBC from the USA by contributing to public television :) !!

I still think this was the best series I've ever seen( with the exception of the later shows, which were just a bad rehash of the imperishable originals) Genuine, human characters in real life situations and, I hesitate using the word, but a lesson or moral to each episode, that was done so without being preachy. So glad they made the shows when they did. I shudder to think what these would look like in todays world.

The 'All Creatures' series was set in the fictional village of Darrowby. The real James Herriot practised in the village of Thirsk, but Askrigg was the village used in the TV series, with countryside locations filmed in Swaledale and Wensleydale. I don't think the documentary can be purchased, although I know the TV series is available on the online BBC shop.

Very nice of the BBC to remove almost every scrap of this marvelous show right as COVID was (and still is) keeping millions around the world locked in at home. I used to have a lot of respect for the Beeb, but even they've gone completely rotten now. Thanks to the uploader for this segment of the documentary. They've left us parts 1 & 3, but taken away part 2! If you're old enough to have enjoyed this show when it was released, you have to be scratching your head in bewilderment. Why would they leave the beginning and the end, but remove the central section of an old documentary that no one is going to buy anyway?

I really hate how RUDE this current generation is in comment on this old beloved TV show ... if this is what being the success-full wealthy nation means in 2017 it isn't my future. Joy being bought by a street dealer, wages earned by being a tool to the corporation. Not their fault, but just how it is. My future was being a post war child, born into poverty and knew the beauty of struggle for success. Today kids don't have any freedom they are caged into schools, computer games, and told to choose a path to own more material goods. No one works with their hands, and owns success like they did in the early 20th century.
