The scene ties into Wheatley's death scene@@tayammourad447 . More than two darts are needed to sedate the Indoraptor. This is explained in the deleted scenes where the Indoraptor is playing with the skull. A worker goes in to fix a lightbulb and is killed by the Indoraptor. It's later explained by a character that more than two darts are needed to tranq the Indoraptor, but the scene was cut, which was a big mistake on the director's and the editors' parts.

With the cost and time needed to do action set pieces today, big studios hire smaller studios like "The Third Floor" to essentially map out an action scene before any filming using basic 3D animation. This animation is then used as reference for the final film. So technically if something was animated in previsualisation but not shot at all in live action it would have been cut very early in a film's production. There's a whole workflow now called Previs, Techvis and Postvis that involves these studios working parallel to the main production.

Not sure which scenes were actually filmed and then not included, and which scenes were just never shot at all...but there are a few I can think of off the top of my head: -the dilophosaurus model they built for the opening sequence, rather than just having its call. -as shown, the indoraptor playing with the skull. However, there's a scene that was supposed to explain whose skull it is, and also explain the significance of Wheatley using two darts and not three. The skull belongs to an electrician. The indoraptor feigned unconsciousness after being shot with 2 darts, so that the electrician could get into its cage. It jumps up and kills and eats him, and everyone else makes a note that they need to use 3 darts next time. That's kind of an important scene, I'm not sure why it wasn't included.

A fairly new process that is part of preproduction where all the big sfx heavy scenes of a film are planned out using basic animation so they have an idea of how everything will tie together in the final film and can have the vfx studios start work earlier using the previs as reference for the shots instead of waiting for the plates to arrive from the actual shoot.
