Demons Souls certainly had a vibe to it, didn’t it. It felt less grounding in a way, but that was okay. Sorta like a fairytale or something. I don’t exactly know how to describe it but the original at least just felt different
@carvedheart434 күн бұрын
In a way I think that Demon’s Souls is more grounding than any of the other games in a beautiful way. Its environments are constructed more logically and with utilitarian purpose than any of the other games. For example, the shortcuts in Boletaria make sense outside of the context of the gameplay progression whereas shortcuts in other games often don’t make as much sense when thinking about the locations as places that people would inhabit. Just think about the staircase to the right of the Phalanx fog wall. It’s a passageway to the higher stratum of the fortresses’ ramparts. It makes sense why it’s there outside of the gameplay, and the way it is opened makes sense too. You can only open it from the inside because it’s a defensive structure not made to be opened from the outside. I don’t know too much about medieval castle architecture, but I find this passageway completely logical in the context of the building’s function. Contrast that with the Gascoigne’s house in Central Yharnam (where you find his daughter). Why is it positioned right next to a steep drop into a sewer system? Why is there a gate next to it that opens up to a ladder which descends into the sewer? Why can that gate only be opened from one side? Who would live next to that? Why would anyone build a house there? The city planning just doesn’t make sense. Demon’s Souls contrasts its logically sound environments beautifully with the game’s dream-like fairy tale feel. It simultaneously feels like real places and like a dream. I

The design, the color choices, just about EVERYTHING had a purpose in here. Unlike the remake... which just tried to be disgusting or terrifying. Its funny how people try saying this game was lame because ''it was too linear'' or ''it was too easy''. Guys, this was the very first soulsborne. Of course it had less exploration. And if it wasnt difficult for you, its only because you have already played faster souls games before. Back in the day i remember spending 5 hours in Latria tower with my knight with ZERO progress. I was in shock but it was SO GOOD! Just imagine! A rpg that exudes hopelessness, abandon, horror. This was and will ALWAYS be the darkest medieval soulsborne ever. This was the most untouched scheme to make a game look the closest to berserk as possible. Demons souls is DARK FANTASY, unlike dark souls, which is HIGH FANTASY. I remember crossing the bridge through Boletaria section 2... i heard a scream followed but a splash of fire that made everything shake as the scren went YOU DIED. This was the very first time i felt like THAT was a real dragon. The weight, the sounds it produces, the lethal fire. That kind of fire you think you must avoid at all costs. Its like... like fighting a flying minor atomic bomb. You must run, cover, then run again just like it was in modern wars. We didnt have this in dark souls. It was just a straight bridge with nowhere to cover, to stop, then keep going. You could get underneath, of course... but this wasnt the same. Those twin dragons in demons were awesome. And having their souls and showing them to your friends was really something. I was like in NG+11 when i stopped playing it. I had used the soul sucker spell to get many, many levels. There was a point where me and my friend had to spend 2hours do level up just once, gaining billions and billions of souls. It just wasnt worth it. And the enemies were STILL powerful, with a lot of HP even against the most powerful sword of that game. False king could drain 2hours of my progress but one mistake of mine. Dying could bring dark phantoms and decrease my HP. That game only can get truly hard after ng+4 (even for dark souls players). If anyone still have this and think this game is the easiest one, you really should advance the NG+ again and again...

Bluepoint butchered the original game's charm, horror, atmosphere, soundtrack and especially the art direction. They high fantasized and gentrified Demon's Souls. Even as a "remake," they did not improve the glaring flaws of the grass system, boss difficulty or much of the world tendency system.
