Carian Retaliation was so fun to use on my Moongrum character. As for Golden Parry if you use Cerulean Assassin Dagger you can effectively have infinite parries and never need to worry about it consuming FP.
@THE_MOONMAN6 ай бұрын
Carian retaliation only uses FP if you successfully parry or block a spell. Saying it's better while wasting a talisman slot to make up for its shortfall makes no sense. You only get 4 talisman slots. They're some of your most powerful items and most limited. And you should be able to follow up by the time you run out of fp, and since they're using offensive spells, they most likely have a micher higher FP cost for the damage that you're negating, than you are for negating their damage. Carian retaliation basically has guaranteed ROI on its use.

As someone who mostly plays some form of caster, be it hybrid or heavy casting focus. Golden parry lets you geta away with one thing that Carian doesn't. The range it seems to have allows for not only parrying from safety, but the higher likelyhood of catching more than one target trying to slap you with bonksticks.

The golden parry's longer range is underrated in that people don't really know "what" they can parry. For example, the halberd can only be parried up close, near the hilt. If you try to parry a halberd that has good spacing on you, you will partial parry it every single time. The golden parry essentially removes this. It's sleeper good.

I feel like Parry, the Ash of War itself, should be S tier, and I politely ask you let me cook. You can get it early and easy, can slap it on shields that don't have parry BUT have innate effects (Like Great Turtle Shell, Pillary, and the Twinbird Kite Shield.) and it opens up unique options. Take the Wakizashi for example; When wielding two katanas, you have a unique LB/L1 moveset that's basically power-stancing without the stat requirement. However, if you wield Mike Wazowski in the off-hand, you not only keep that moveset, but you keep one of the best parry tools. This is excessively useful when combined with the stinky Serpentbone Blade and a Wasabi built for status.

In Bloodborne my only form of engagement was trough first parrying the opponent as a way to say "my turn now". In Elden Ring I've never considered it viable. I've been working on mastering parry with my curved short sword since my current build is modeled after the blue dancer. I swap between power stancing 2 curved short swords and two-handing one curved short sword no shield on either setup. And honestly when you parry someone in pvp with a sword most people lose their minds. I'm starting to think a lot of people don't even know it's possible to parry with a sword at all lol. Granted it does seem to have the smallest parry window, but that's what makes it satisfying when you start getting it down. I went back to Stormveil Castle and grabbed the buckler shield, and properly spent hours at that boss until I mastered the parry mechanic. By the end of the night. Every possible parryable attack left him on the floor and me standing over him, in perfect Golden Order Totality 😈

the Buckler will always be my favorite because it's animation conveys very easily exactly when the parry frames are in place, when it's held close to the head that's when the parry frames are active. As a result of this using it was what made parrying really click for me and it's been my go-to ever since when it comes to learning pve enemy timings and as a hot swap to catch people off guard in pvp. Also Thop's barrier is good for deflecting an actually crazy number of non-physical projectiles including but not limited to just magic, I'd highly recommend experimenting and having fun with it because I've had so many "wait it can do that wtf!" moments while carrying it around, plus it's fun to bring with a caster build for a 0fp defensive tool against other mages. I can only imagine the look on their face as I just casually shove their moon off to the side.

Royal guard's parry starts frame 1, which means as soon as you press the button. Whereas in Dark souls/elden ring, the parry has startup before it actually parries. In some cases, the startup can be long enough to be unusable vs some really fast attacks. At that point it's no longer reaction but prediction that will get you the parry.

for a true paladin build for pve, the erdtree greatshield is my pick. i like to have the gravel stone and fire giant's seals in that same hand, with either the black steel great hammer for guard countering, barbed spear for proc'ing bleed and guard-poking, or messmer's spear for the charged r2 projectile from range, and the erdtree seal in the main hand. if you don't mind cycling through items and spells, it's an incredibly versatile build that copes with pretty much everything the game throws at you after completing the dlc, i started an ng+ run, and cackled like a madwoman as i went from Elden Lord to Elden Menace, bullying anything and everything in my path. if you know the weaknesses of the enemies you're up against next, you can tailor your strats and loadout to a disgusting degree.

I can even remember the first black/red-phantom PVP guy who invaded me. He was naked, nothing than a buckler shield. after my first hit he parried me and pulled out the fatest weapon the game could have offered him to godlike deleting me in 1 hit. Gotta be honest, I haven’t used any sort of parry skills much. I recall doing parry-like attacks on bloodborne where it requires precise timing on the attack itself to make it work.
