I love Luffy and everything he's about, but Usopp is my favorite. gadgets, lies, a bit of earnest want and need, and he stood up to defend Merry when no one else did. Even if he was wrong and there was nothing more to do for Merry, his loyalty to that ship as a crewmate against someone like luffy is always something I'll respect.

I get what you’re saying but that merry stuff was all personal and selfish I get why he was like that but he was disrespectful to his Captain and crew & chose a ship that needed to be laid to rest like a person who has had long battle with chronic disease or a very old sick dog over his crew but he was man enough to admit he was deadass wrong and I respect that

@@KTS. it’s bc of his past. He took care of sick ppl and never abandoned them (kaya and his mother). But his “disrespect” of the capt was not the crime that he had to pay for. Thats an interpretation that satisfies fans beliefs about hierarchy and power. It was really that he left the crew, abandoned them. That was what Zoro said that convince the other straw hats that he needed to apologize before rejoining.

@@mikeham7251 I never even connected the points about Usopp's mom & Kaya but you're totally right; I viewed that entire insecurity as just stemming from his weakness and how he projected his fear of abandonment to the Merry. Great insight! It's Usopp's big heart that allowed him to care for his mom & Kaya, then the Merry, and eventually step up for Robin when it mattered in spite of hiding from the crew via the Sogeking mask to avoid the reality that, he was always strong in an important way and able to step up when it mattered, he just needed to overcome his self-defeating inferiority complex first (which itself yeah could stem from his childhood relative to either or both of his mother & father). Great stuff!

@@ryanyoo7129 that's all true too. His fear of abandonment and his projection onto the Merry. That also could tie inn with his past, considering his father. It's nice to see ppl who aren't mad at Usopp for not being Sanji Zoro.
