In November 2018, 68 AI surveillance cameras were installed at hotspots in Mannheim. The algorithm in the cameras is being trained to detect suspicious movements, with the aim of reducing crime. The algorithm is currently undergoing development utilizing real-time data obtained from these surveilled areas. We take a humorous and terrifying journey through the monitored areas. Along the way we meet various locals and start asking questions: At what point is a movement suspicious? Is there crime in Mannheim or are people just racist? What are the experiences of different Mannheim residents with general police surveillance? And to what extent could these biases become replicated in the algorithm?
