Thats true, and i liked it quite a bit out the gate. But i also got the pleasure of catching the release tour as he passed through Amsterdam. I listened to the songs a lot in the lead up to the performance, and somehow now a year later im still listening to it just as much. Ive never gone to a concert that struck me as much as his did.

Like the jazz and funk influences he brings onto the album, and the overall production is just on a whole another level, generally speaking. I'd say even GKMC sounds better but that's not to say DAMN doesn't sound good, it's just the former are some of the best albums ever.

It’s mostly personal preference now but I like the calmer vibe of some DAMN songs and the more aggressive like XXX and DNA.

Probably because fantano is hard on lyricism and poetry and while DAMN has absolute bangers, if you compare it to his other albums in this video, they fall short and a lot more tracks feel like they’re for casual listeners.

​@ot1346 DUCKWORTH. tells the story of a sequence events that had to happen for Kendrick to make it. It's his best conceptualized song and every lyric matters to the story. FEAR. Goes through Kendrick being at the ages 7, 17, and 27. It tells his fears at each of those ages and how it developed him into the person he is and what he learns from them. XXX. is commenting on how Kendrick views America and how he escaped the life he had before. It has similar things to GKMC and talks about what it really means to live for eachother. There's 3 more songs I could explain the lyrical and conceptualization behind. Sure, it doesn't have a over arching theme and story like GKMC. And it isn't giving justice and truth to a entire country of people like TPAB. But it means something. It tells the good and evils of Kendricks story. It is definitely his 3rd best album by far.

The problem with damn in my opinion is, that atleast to me after 10-15 plays in a short amount of time, i almost haven't visited a single song since except Duckworth. I feel like songs on the album only have so mcuh to say, that now after listening to them a few times, i dont get anything new out of them. Maybe im missing something, but it just seems like the internet "over-hypes" this album.
