The pride and happiness on his face got to me, looks like a great feeling.

@@lala6622la English football operates in a tier system where you have really really good teams in the Premier league (first tier), really good but not AS good teams in the Championship (2nd tier), slightly worse in League One (very confusingly named but it is 3rd tier), League Two (4th tier, where our Wimbly Womblies are currently), and so on (but the lower tiers are non professional football teams)

@@lala6622la there’s a lot of drama about promotion (a team plays so well in a year that they are going to move up to the next highest league) and relegation (doing so poorly you get demoted to a lower league) as it affects funding and GLORYYY and HONORRR

@@lala6622la AFC Wimbledon, because of a team-that-shall-not-be-named, had to start all the way from the bottom leagues and work their way up to professional football by getting promoted. They had some lovely years in League One (3rd tier, when the old DH&J episodes were recorded), but were relegated last year to League Two :( still, who knows? We might win it all next year!!

I grew up in Medway. The Gillingham in Medway, Kent (the football team you're talking about) is pronounced with a soft G. I think though, there is a Gillingham down in the southwest somewhere that's pronounced with a hard G.

@@clairegresswell that's the wrong Gillingham. AFC Wimbledon were playing Gillingham FC, from Gillingham, Kent. It's pronounced with a soft G. The Dorset one is a hard G.

Funny enough, the word "soccer" comes from England in the late 1800's to differentiate "Rugby Football" and "Association Football". Shorted to "rugger" and "soccer". The English don't call it soccer as a backlash to Americans beginning to use the term. So everybody's right! Hooray!
