I had a rough collie and their coats need to be brushed weekly. Their demeanor is wonderful. Great dogs.

Oh she has a gorgeous tricolour coat, beautiful dog but yip in one furry mess. She obviously knows what grooming is and is so good at just standing or lying down for a wee break. She would feel lighter and less itchy after all that glorious blown fur is removed (I loved sitting with dog just gently hand plucking all the 'tufts' out. Dog fortunately loved being groomed and would bring her brush every night for a quick brush. Well done at getting the majority of her blown and matted fur off without having to shave her down. Fabulous looking after that brush thru. Reminds me of hairdressers having to brush out mega amounts of hairspray and back combed hair (from the fashionable beehive look in the 60s and 70s) prior to washing hair and doing it all again.

You took the difficult road, great job! So much impacted undercoat, and dander (“dust is in the air” as you mentioned). Maybe you need to protect your eyes too with clear goggles.

Why would it be unacceptable to shave the fur off, I know that all long haired dogs have fur to protect themselves from the cold but with this one having the undercoat would it be easier to get the overcoat off and then brush out the dead hair (if I'm wrong forgive me, I don't know much on the subject) timestamp 4:47 ok now I know why

There's a much easier and faster way to get rid of that undercoat. Shave it all down to 1/2 inch FIRST. You have to use a spacer so you don't cut it too close. Then, you can do as you normally do removing the dead undercoat with much less pulling and tugging. Better for you, better for the animal. ..

You never shave a double coated dog unless it’s for a medical reason or procedure.

You should give all that undercoat to someone that spins wool. it can be washed and treated like any other animal fiber. Some people with dogs and cats that have a long undercoat make things from them.

In my opinion, this is not suitable. It is definitely hard and very dirty, despite the bath. Best taken from a regularly brushed dog.
