A beautiful rendition of a beautiful song. Whilst I have my own favourite versions, this is very worthy of a place amongst the very best. Thank you.

Beautifully sung and played, and in beautiful surroundings.

Yes, it is, Philip - however, it is a piece best performed unaccompanied as I found the orchestra detracted from the appreciation of the modulation and harmony

As a church sop, from a practical viewpoint, it's a lot easier to hear the parts this way than in the very grand Glasgow Orpheus or Phoenix(?) version (unsure of the correct attribution), where the notes are held so long, getting a long enough breath is difficult enough in ordinary circumstances (did they overlap their in-breaths, I wonder?), but now we have to wear masks while singing in church, well ... !

The Glasgow Orpheus Choir was the choir of which Hugh Robertson, the composer , was conductor When Robertson retired, the choir did as well. The Glasgow Phoenix is the resurrection of the Glasgow Orpheus ..... If you want to know how the Composer intended it to sound, then listen to the Glasgow Orpheus Choir.

@@MandyJMaddison He may have had his INTENTIONS, but when it comes to our little church choir, he would've been expecting rather too much, I fear!!! But thanks for clearing up the mystery of the name change. Of course, the classical associations of Orpheus the magical flute-player with the Underworld and the Phoenix as a symbol of Reincarnation is rather clever.

@@amandayorke481< I agree that the names are really good. It is typical of the Scots to go for a Classical source. I often wonder how it must thrill the hearts of composers to know that their songs of praise are loved and sung across the world. And that local choirs are prepared to take up the challenge or singing some thing like this- because they love it and want to share it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJSkeYamoalqhZo

This song as written to be sung unaccompanied. The Orchestra does not add- they reduce the clarity of the sounds. The violins are particularly out of place here.

I fully agree. And the choir sings like they are falling asleep.

Why on earth would you want to sing this any way other than unaccompanied. The accompaniment is totally uncalled for and detracts from the beautiful simplicity of HSR's composition.
