All Kairi Scenes (Kingdom Hearts II)

My take: On the one hand, this is a disappointment when compared to the previous game. Kairi's screentime is fine for the first 1/3 of it (13 minutes), but after that she pretty much recedes into the background as a support character alongside Donald, Goofy, and Ansem!Riku while Sora, Mickey, and the later de-Ansemified Riku get all the focus. We never actually see her fight again with her new Keyblade, even when she apparently had done so (see 30:40). And throughout the entirety of her screentime, Kairi's characterized as primarily Sora's love interest. Almost all of her scenes revolve around Sora and her feelings for him in some way, whereas in the previous game she was allowed to have her own character arc apart from being Sora's love interest, so this feels like a step backward rather than forward with her. But on the other hand, her sceentime is at least long enough for her to unquestionably be an important character in this game. I really like her debut scene that shows how much she's grown since the first KH and where she sends the letter, and I also love the ending scene with her that links back to both that scene and the beginning and ending of the first KH in a truly beautiful way. And she gets to take three major actions in this game that are absolutely crucial: she uses her presence and new Keyblade to save Sora from Saix's swarm of Heartless and forces Xigbar to fight (and die) instead, she causes Sora and Riku's reunion by forcing Riku to stay and get over his idiotic moping, and, again, she wrote and sent that letter, which turns out to be the freaking "One Sky, One Destiny" poem, and it's what saves Sora and Riku from a slow demise in the Realm of Darkness at the end of the game. You just got to respect her for that.

I agree. She had a better personality in KH1 (ironic because for half the game she was in a coma), then she blanded out in KH2, then she took a step further back in KH3. It's why many people are frustrated with how she's portrayed in KH3 - she has so much potential, she's a keyblade bearer AND a princess of heart for goodness sake and they kept hinting at her training, but it was completely wasted!

@@FlowerEmblem nomura at this point has more confidence that the Story will go on longer . She already has playable moves now so the idea is propaly for her tobget her own game during the lost Master arc. However remember Japan has ther own issues with female characters. Kairi is purposfully written like this becaus it Frustration her wich links into her long term arc of becoming stronger. She neds more Training. Its more satasfying in the long run. And i personly thibg her personality was just fine in kh 2 and 3. Her sass was Still ther but more suptle as ther was no real time to spare. Her being taken out of comision had to happen too. For plot reasons. Both for soras disapearence and her arc of selfdoupt and geting stronger . MoM teased this already.She has enough of this and wants to fight and she can protect herself but she cant defeat a Main Boss yet.

Kingdom hearts 2 Kairi will always be my favorite Kairi. I love the way her voice sounds and i love the way she looks in kh2 like her hair style and her school uniform and her lovely pink dress. In kh1 her hair was to short and girls with short hair don't attracted me to much and her outfit is ok i guess but wasn't to much of my interest but she was cute. In kh3 I missed Haydens voice. Kairis new hair style and the new dress in kh3 makes me feel that she went back to just looking cute like in kh1. In kh2 Kairi was the whole package for me she looked cute and so hot at the same time. Kh2 Kairi became my dream girl. Now when I see her in kh3 I dont look at her the same way I look at her in kh2. I feel her so different in kh1 and kh3 compare to kh2 is like shes a different person.

Kairi could be so sassy sometimes in KH1 and KH2. It's sad to me that the developers not only squandered an opportunity to make her a more prominent presence in KH3, but also kind of got rid of her personality. Then again, KH3 muted the personalities of multiple characters in my opinion.

Agree, it's like all keyblade wielders lost their charms, as for the destiny Trio, not only Kairi, but also Riku feels so distant and hollow, almost no interactions with Sora and zero with Kairi, plus I hated that Sora becomes everyone's clown and only when you get to KG he is taken seriously again in a bad way, stealing the spotlight from the other guardians.

Free change between Namine and Kairi but each has individual arcs they owe us for all the times they pulled our chain... How they make her the fifth on screen keyblade wielder and then not let her fight once in the game they do so. It should have been her & Sora vs Saïx and then her Riku & Sora vs Armored Xemnas. Riku & Sora for the universe was perfection.

Actually, Nomura confirmed that this was the Realm In-Between, hence Riku's dialogue about "this place is perfect for me". The Realm of Darkness lies on the other side of that ocean - the place where Aqua and Ansem the Wise were in BBS was the Realm of Darkness' shore, looking out at that same ocean.
