I've got the Night Lord's Castle as a kid on Christmas. Back then here in Eastern Europe it had cost a huge amount of money and our family struggled financially, so it was hopeless to get such sets. I still don't understand how my parents managed to save up to buy it. Got hooked on LEGO since, and I have wonderful childhood memories for it, where I've built sets I did not have with what Lego I had. Now so many years have passed, and I never gave my Lego to anyone thinking that I'm leaving it for my child. I have my own 2 children now. And last year, I with my 6-year-old son built the Castle again. It was so heart-warming and full of nostalgia. Lego helped me develop as a person into ho I am now. Even if I have nothing to do with it (international sales), it helped me to understand there is always a way to achieve a goal - in my work, in life in my relationship. You don't have to always follow by the rule book if you don't have all the pieces. Creative outside the box thinking will always help in life.

In the 90s I had one of the smallest sets shown here, “Skeleton’s surprise”, we didn’t have a lot of money when I was a kid, so my parents were never going to be able to afford one of the big castles……. BUT I can’t explain THE AMOUNTS OF STORIES AND ADVENTURES I IMAGINED with that simple set, I remember sometimes I was in school and I was just excited all morning waiting to get home to play with that Lego set… thanks for this, you made me feel something deep inside that I didn’t remember.

I remember very well as a kid how Lego changed completely from beginning of the 90s to the end of the 90s. The sets became oversaturrated with new and "one-time-use" parts like e.g. bat-wings (what i mean by one-time-use is that it's a finished piece with very limited creative use). One set had all of a sudden 20 different colors and shapes. Every square centimeter had something "unique" going in it. I really lost the thrill in building those ...
@evertvriezinga3193
@evertvriezinga3193 2 жыл бұрын
Completely agree. Maybe because they had a new economic/technical ability to create original pieces they went "crazy". But it feels more like a doll house with unique pieces then Lego.

I donated all of my Legos from somewhere between 1984 to 1992 sitting in 5 big chests to my nephews. Unfortunately, they have no interest in Lego but only in small, tiny computers and mobile phones when they are blinking and making noise. It is scary seeing them pulling out one of their toys just to leave it alone 5 minutes later so they can grab the next one. My sister and I were completely different. My mother till this day reports that I woke up at 5 a.m. and they had to force me to bed by 7 p.m. and during that time they saw me just grabbing some water and the meals and then disappear into my room to unfold my Lego world.

@@nielspetit-jean3443 Lego has sadly skimped on base plates. I relied on them as a kid and my nephews also rely on them today. That's something sadly missing from sets today. Baseplates are a foundation for building, and so many sets today refuse to integrate them into sets to save a few cents...some sets use this lack of a baseplate decently well, such as the Star Wars Battle for Hoth (though the SW sets are not my favorites; i love classic castle and space), but I think something is lost without a full-sized baseplate.

I got the Kings Castle one Christmas, like the only "big" lego set I ever got. I even knew better then to look lego as a kid, when I went to the store. Because the prices were so high compared to other toys as a kid.

I got into the castle sets in the mid-80s. I still have them and love them. Thanks for the video! I just also realized how many classic castle sets I'm missing!😥

YES! That's the one I had, the Night Lord's Castle. Been trying to figure this out for ages! Just had a son and I'm hoping to dig it out and rebuild it with him in the years to come

I've just finished building the new castle with my daughter (31120), and it's brilliant! So many funny little details, the castle seems so alive and lived in. I loved this series when I was a kid (in the 80ies), and this new set pulls all of my strings. It's hard to tell who enjoyed the build the most, me or my daughter. Probably my all time favourite (except maybe Millennium Falcon, but that set is still on my todo-list).

They should bring this back, and make a set(s) that are a moderate-sized castle (maybe like the size of one of those 30-40$ sets?) for each faction, and also have siege weapons with each castle, so that you can take your knights and soldiers from say, the Black Falcon Castle set, and attacks the Fright Knight Castle set with them. Or something.

The centrepiece of my sets was the King's Mountain Fortress from 1990. But I was little more than a toddler then, so I guess I received it after a couple years on the market. I don't remember the magical stuff that appeared soon after, but I remember my later sets were all Pirates/Marines

So, I remember already as a kid being frustrated about new factions coming out and not being able to expand the ones I already had. Don't you feel that keeping more continuity/compatibility with the factions would have been a better strategy?

Gave all of my legos away to a kid in the neighborhood back in the early 90s. Never really thought much about it until now. Let’s just hope he gave it to another kid when he grew up or saved it for his kids.

Wow lots of memories, I was in the Lego age in the late 90s but most of the castle Lego came from the son of a friend of my father's who must be like 10 or more years older then me. So we kinda got their old Lego (or my older brother did) from the mid to late 80s. I absolutely loved the camouflaged outpost

I remember being really bummed when the early 2000s Knights Kingdom ended, to the point I didn’t want to get the castle sets that followed only to then backpedal on that super hard because of how cool those sets were. Great stuff really. Always loved the older sets too, I didn’t have any but used to watch videos about them and they always looked fun and very charming.

The 1984 set of my uncles I built many many times in the 90s (I’m born in 1991). I myself never got any big Lego set, but there was this 1984 castle with many missing parts, no instruction booklet, and only the cardboard package (back side only). I built the castle by looking at the picture (alternative version with open walls) only. Those pieces are the most nostalgic to me. In 2022 they released a new castle set (for 400€).
