It has since 2020. It is now complusory for junior schools but optional in senior. But sadly it applies only to federal schools and private schools that want to. A few states do offer history

Totally enjoyed this but a little correction is necessary. The General Abacha lead coup, was on 17th November 1993. Therefore, he was in power from November 1993 to June 8, 1998 and not "August 1993 to June 8, 1998".

How did you inteprete your own understanding of this history. This has nothing to do with the creation of Nigeria but some overambitious overzealous youths in the army who truncated the progress of the young promising country and created the problem that has not departed us till today

10:49 Sounds inaccurate. Dimka did not take over the reins of government because he ran away. He failed in this bid because he was caught some time after being dislodged from the radio station, and was then executed. Nevertheless, awesome job with this piece on the coups! A job really well done.
@backinhistory92 ай бұрын
Noo, I haven't said so, sir. Watch again. In all my videos on Dimka, I have never said that he ever took over the reins of power. But here is the story: He led the assassins that killed the Head of State. From there, he moved to Radio Nigeria to make a speech. While still at Radio Nigeria, then Col. Ibrahim Babangida led troops to the station and tricked him into abandoning the broadcast. From there, Dimka escaped to Jos, and from Jos, he moved to Abakiliki in present-day Ebonyi State, where he checked into Friendship Hotel. While there, he asked the Manager of the hotel to invite his long time girl friend, Ugo to come and meet him. Dimka and Ugo were regular guests at the hotel. Dimka had served in Abakiliki during the war and beyond. He was someone that was very free with the locals. While in the hotel at night with Ugo, information got to the Army that Dimka was in the hotel. He was surrounded. Dimka escaped through the window. Ran into the nearby Bush and crossed to the road, took a taxi and escaped further. While in the taxi, Radio announcements were made every 5 minutes asking citizens to report Dimka to law enforcement should he be seen. Dimka chose to surrender himself to a Police Officer who was on a road block. He was moved to Lagos, tried and convicted. He was executed by firing squad.

Many years of military rules politicians are guilty, politicians have they learn their lessons? Politicians have they learn their lessons. The hardship we are facing is another way of inviting military back to take over power
@musagaladima38353 ай бұрын
That is why our country remain like this because the spirit of our then good leaders that supposed to build the country and grow our economic are still angry. The coup is the root cause of bad governance and poor leadership. May God help us and continue to bless Nigeria with competence leaders.

The number of military coup in Nigeria is obviously more than eight. (1) Kaduna Nzeugwu/Emmanuel Ifeajuna 1966. Aka operation Damisa. (2) Danjuma/Gowon coup 1966 aka rematch. (3) Murtala Mohammed coup 1975. (4) Buka Suka Dimka coup 1976. (5) Muhammad Buhari coup 1983. (6) Ibrahim Babangida coup 1985. (7) Maman Vatsa/ Bitiyong coup 1986. (8) Gideon Okar coup 1990. (9) Sani Abacha coup 1993. (10) Obasanjo/Yaradua/Fadile/ Gwadabe coup 1995 (11) Oladipo Diya coup 1997. For the purpose of history,these are all the military coup in Nigeria as recorded by the Nigerian military.

You did not mention the Vatsa Coup.
@backinhistory93 ай бұрын
Well, there was no proven evidence of that coup. Yes, Vatsa and many others were arrested and tried "FOR PLANNING A COUP". They were eventually executed by firing squad but the story is still shrouded in questions that answers have not come handy. We thus decided to discuss coups that had indeed taken place (as against the ones ALLEGED to have been planned or contemplated).
