The first move in any Karate is always defensive, a block. It's meant that way for the symbolism and the meaning of training. Karate is for defense only. So...someone has to throw a punch first to justify USING Karate offensively. Strained Marshall artist is the last person to worry about committing unprovoked offensive assaults on anybody. And basically has a higher level of tolerance for provocation than an untrained emotional used person. Not fighting is then not cowardice but control and courageous. If pushed however, then it's then necessary to use Karate , now still for defense only.

Miyagi is like that old legendary martial arts master one speaks of but never sees. He beat a young, hungry Barns. Took on Kreese and Silver. All three back to back with little to no effort. And Chozen, someone familiar with the Miyagi style, was waay out of his league. These are feats that Daniel, Chozen, Barns and Johnny will never achieve as grown masters. Miyagi will remain a Legend to their students.
@rowanaforrest97924 ай бұрын
I overall dislike all the movies except the first two (not due to the actors, but the writers), but I do love in #3 the fight between Miyagi, Kreese, Silver, and young Barnes. Miyagi put Barnes away with just two hard throws. He took a careful stance when he thought he'd be fighting Kreese and Silver together, but then showed his contempt for Kreese by simply standing there looking almost bored. He proceeded to whallop the stuffings out of Kreese in a completely one-sided fight. Then the best part, when he let Silver work hard trying to land a hit while Miyagi used minimal energy just dodging, before putting Silver away. That's what a wise fighter learns to do when they're older and not as powerful, tough, and agile anymore. They get clever, dodge and block to conserve their energy while forcing their opponent to tire themselves out, before taking an opening to clobber them hard and end the fight.

One thing Pat Morita nailed was how absolutely fearless Miyagi is when in the presence of danger and death. He's emotionless in battle. It always sets him apart from anyone he fights. He's a man whose looked death right in the eyes. His foes never understand his true nature; the reason he choose peace. They always underestimate him due to his size and age and, more than anything else, his seemingly pacifistic nature. They always think they are dealing with an old man who knows some karate. In reality, they are dealing with a warrior.

He had split second reaction times that would allow him to make a quick diversionary movement to get in position to get his shots in. Entirely a counterfighter. This was how they got around him being smaller and not being the fastest. He was the quickest in vision and knowing the next move.

And he only did it to protect Daniel. But Daniel needed a lesson to quit being a little whiny-ass as well.
