I am almost exclusively a video poker player and am one of the people who thought you had weird holds on this game. When you explained the multiplier strategy, it makes a lot more sense. I usually just play single hand, so hadn't considered the ultimate x factor of what you're doing.

So I'd like some insight into some holds over others Your last hand had 10 club, 9 heart, 4 club, jack club, and 4 heart. You had 2 to the royal but kepts the pair of 4s. Why that keep vs the potential royal keep?

The correct way to think about all video poker hands is NOT to focus on the best possible hand. Instead, make the play that will, on average, return the most money. For Ultimate X, this is more difficult than for most video poker games, but there is commercially available software that will give you the answer for every situation. In this particular case, a pair of fours returns much more money than JcTc. You make many 2 pair, trips, boats and quads, but the royal is extremely rare (less than 1 in 16,000) and the other big hands are also very hard to hit because you need 3 perfect cards Human intuition will vary from player to player, but the simple truth is that if you don't study the game and learn (memorize) the correct strategy, you will make many errors and not even realize it.
