Fun fact :during shooting bay stopped connery and asked him "there's something familiar about your preformence, what are you doing?" and connery straight up told him "I'm doing bond.." this is him playing bond if he got captured for 30 years.. This was the last time we got to see the original bond even if it was unofficially

The shot that Goodspeed gives himself is called Atropine. It’s a real thing, and with most nerve agents, you have 15-30 seconds to get the Atropine in. It really does come in a self-injecting pen like an epipen, and when I was in the Marine Corps, we got full training on using them, and a dose per Marine if deployed. It’s been 30 years and I can’t remember where we’re supposed to stick ourselves with them, but the directions were right on the injector. Somewhat ironically, that scene might be the most realistic part of the movie!

There is just so many freaking awasome moments (either situations or dialog) with some AMAZING music and tbh all 3 - Ed Harris, Sean Connery and Nic Cage are just so perferct for their roles. I know that many ppl call it a great guilty pleasure movie, but for me it is just a f-ing amazing movie "." Love it. Seen it for sure more than 20 times and will watch it many more times if I only can. As per purely action movies go it goes in a pair with 1st "Die Hard" and "Heat" (different reasons).

These past few hours... have been the longest, darkest of my life. How does one weigh human life? One million civilians against 88 hostages. And in the middle, Frank Hummel. That we have ignored, abandoned or marginalized... a great soldier like Frank Hummel... and that American boys have paid for that neglect in blood... is equally real and equally tragic. We are at war with terror. Fighting a war means casualties. This is the worst call I've ever had to make. Air strike approved.

And it establishes Mason's opinion of Goodspeed as something other than a useful idiot. Without that distinction being drawn between Goodspeed (who when he has Mason at a disadvantage does the right/kind thing) and Womack (who's willing to tear up a federal document in order to keep Mason buried), you don't get the ending.

Michael Biehn's character, sorry I forgot his name, is a terrible commander. He absolutely should have "given that order". Dead, he & his men have failed their mission. Alive, they may yet escape & complete their objective. Beyond his duty to protect the country from all enemies "foreign or domestic", he has a duty as a commander not to pointlessly get his men killed. He should have stood down.
