Love your vids and see that you've ridden both the regular Stumpjumper and and the Epic Evo. I've been riding an old school fully ridged Surly Krampus the past 8 years and it's time for this 50 plus year old to upgrade to full suspension. I had my sites set on a Epic Evo Comp and have one on order from my LBS but the owner just told me he could offer me a sweet deal on a new Stumpjumper Expert which component wise is much better then the Evo Comp. Even thought the Krampus was a 29 plus it was still pretty snappy with aggressive geometry. Do you think I'd be happy with a Stumpjumper or will it feel sluggish? I no longer race but love good single track and we have a pretty good selection of all types of trails her in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I wish I could ride both but it's winter here and nobody has a Epic Evo to be found at a bike shop up here to even look at to compare.

JC where do you place this relative to the Epic EVO? Is there a big difference in pedal/climbing efficiency between the two? I want something lighter and more nimble than the 2019 SJ 29er, just not sure the 2021 SJ is that bike being longer and slacker. Though I do like the steeper STA
@jctrails4 жыл бұрын
The Epic Evo being so light and having less travel its definitely easier to pedal for longer distances. The new Stumpy isn’t far off in the efficiency department but you are lugging around 4-5 more pounds.

Loved the review. I live in the UK and i'm currently looking at this bike, specifically the Comp Carbon version. I currently ride a 6 year old 160/160 Cube Stereo and dont struggle on climbs but im a little concerned about dropping to a 140/130mm travel bike. Looking at the footage, a lot of what i ride is similar but i do like to ride natural trails from time to time and the odd day at bike park. I do small jumps but dont ride Black Trails, i stick to fast Blue & Red trails. Is the lower travel something to be concerned about in your opinion? Thanks.

good luck, though i swear ive just brought the last one in the uk, i was thinking about it for a bit and saw them going out of stock quickly so decided pull the trigger on the last one i could find online glad i did though, awesome bike, makes even a naff rider like myself instantly better, not fell off it once yet :P travel is good enough for my level of ability, i thought the best thing about the bike was it uses the same frame as the s works so will be good for upgrading

The TB has a sturdy planted feel like a mini enduro bike. The Stumpy feels lighter and not as stiff as the TB, which makes for a more playful ride. They climb about the same I would say, but the TB does provide better traction thru rock gardens.

@jctrails4 жыл бұрын
It’s hard to suggest a size for you. It depends if you like a long bike for stability or a short bike to flick around. The S3 is comfortable to pedal around for my 5’10” size, but I would probably go with a S4 with a short stem if I was doing extended descents.
