All-new 2021 Toyota Corolla Cross G spec [Walkaround Review] | YS Khong Driving

Here we go folks - the All-new Toyota Corolla Cross, a SUV based on the Corolla has just been launched: we had a media drive a few days ago and there was an embargo on our video until the time of launch.
The Corolla Cross is possibly the most anticipated new model launch, and we are happy to share our review with you.
The G spec is what is available immediately and they are sold at ckd prices despite being cbus, on a ckd bridging scheme.
The higher spec V variant will have a few wlextras, which include bigger wheels, and Toyota Safety Sense, and is expected to be available only towards the last quarter.

The Corolla Cross is really like a cost cutting SUV. Look at the front bonnet without heat insulation pad or cover. Also, the black plastic engine cover is also removed. Rear suspension has changed from double wishbone to torsion beam type. Hopefully, the sound proof materials still retain and not given with lower grade. We don't know. Only UMWT will tell if they are willing to tell. Feeling so cheap when look at it properly although the outlook of the car is beautiful. I think Toyota really have done a lot cost cutting on this Corolla Cross in order to make it competitive to Honda HRV. I would say worth to wait for new HRV to compare. But if consumer would like to get reliable car then probably Toyota is the one to go with. My wife owns a Honda HRV and quality wise is NO NO. Honda Malaysia refuse to replace the front absorbers under warranty.

@@JuneNeko I disagree. Ultrawide lenses distort the view. You want to sell the vehicle, not the trees - though trees are nice, they're not the main story. 35 is wide enough without distorting anything, 50mm are closest to the human field of view or how we perceive the world.

Engine is Japanese, but possibly assembled here, I have no information, not important The Cross is locally assembled There are many variations of CX5, including turbo and AWD so cannot compare.

The simple reason is making available a sedan and a crossover for Toyota fans to cater for different preferences. Simple marketing common sense. It is not always about power. Let me give you a simple example. When you have 5 kids, an Avanza makes more sense than a Miata.

This model along with the sedan were originally build to use the Dynamic Force engine which sits lower in the engine bay. However for our market, UMWT reuse the 1.8L from the previous generation which sits higher hence removing the engine cover so it won't hit inner bonnet.

Unker YS, need your opinion. How is this Car handling and power delivery vs Subaru XV? I'm still confused to go with whether this, or XV... I'm also concerned about quality n parts cost.

It is really a personal choice. The XV has AWD, so is more stable around corners and in the wet. The Cross would be more economical on fuel, and of course it is Toyota. I would have some tough decision making if I wanted one or yhe other, but the good thing about cars is that you can always change brand the next time, so choose one this time and the other the next time. You can buy either one through us, because we sell Subaru here too

This is not out in the US, south east asia yes. Most people who review them in south east asia are smaller body frame than us in the USA, so not sure how big the car and inside of care will fit our USA body frame...

You can compare by looking at the dimensions for both countries. I would think that by now it would be universal models, or perhaps you would be using the RAV4 instead. Nowadays car makers use one body size for each model, and use different models for each country. For example, the Camry is the same everywhere, and so is the Corolla.

@@Kaipochama Well the consequence of doing it "right" is raising the entire dashboard. Which I kinda don't like. I get what you mean, having the dashboard lower exposes the entire back section of the unit which isn't the prettiest thing. But it's that or raise the dashboard. So, you have to decide which is the lesser of the two. I guess Toyota chose practicality.
