I’ve had over 10 Honda outboards in my rental fleet over the last 25 years with nearly zero problems. Occasionally starter issues cuz the customers try to start the engine while it’s already running cuz they’re that quiet at idle. I’m at over 40,000 combined hours with my Hondas.

I can believe it. Hondas and Yamahas are very popular outside of North America. Don't see very many in this area. Everyone either knows Yamaha and wants their reliable engines or wants the big HP Mercury engines.

MSRP on this motor is between $33 and $35k depending on shaft length and color. It was designed and built 100% by Honda and contrary to what someone else wrote earlier, all of Honda’s outboards are built by Honda and not by other companies.

There is a reason they are so expensive, PEACE OF MIND ! 🇯🇵 quality and attention to detail are what makes it back to the dock at the end of the day ! Mercury is what makes the call for a tow back to dock !!

I worked as a marine mechanic for one summer. The owner of the company got some kind of kick back for purchasing six brand new Mercury Outboards to replace his aging, yet well running Yamahas and Hondas. After less than two months into service 2/3 of the Mercury motors were broken down and failed to start. He pulled each one after that began and reinstalled the old Yamaha and Honda motors. Nuff said !!

Mercury outboard has been building big outboards for a long time and are good motors but if I was putting life on the line I would trust honda equipment over anyone else's I don't know what they do but they do it great in pretty much everything they make
@ct17624 ай бұрын
they had a bunch of issues with oil starvation and bad sensors on the 200/225's for a while. issue has been corrected. the smaller ones had water intrusion issues, but to be fair every engine line/brand has had issues somewhere in production. just that Honda is really no more reliable as a Yamaha or Suzuki these days.

It's probably a great motor. The only problem with Honda's, as well as Suzuki's, is there are limited service centers. And that's going to be location specific within the U.S. Unlike Yamaha and Mercury where you can take your pick of places for service pretty much everywhere. There isn't a Honda service center within 3 hours of me. Overseas markets are different, where Honda and Suzuki are more common.
@ct17624 ай бұрын
very true, and has been since the early 1980's for Suzuki and Honda. Yamaha got that very early edge over is Japanese cousins in 1983 with a then state of the art 2 stroke line. Suzuki was 3 years behind with their excellent DT V6 2 stroke, but could never catch up even with a 6 year warranty promo.
@marksentyrz367026 күн бұрын
The lack of service centers has bothered me in the past, but after using them as rentals for over 25 years now, I've come to realize that service centers can't make a buck just servicing Hondas. As my service center owner once told me, "just do your normal services at 100 hr, 400 hr and annually. Other than that they run like sewing machines"

@jmabs50968 ай бұрын
This thing isn't even being strained. It's the idea of a v8 truck for a v6, if it got more juice to play with, the less it needs to flex it's real limit resulting in a quieter, better sounding engine that can run at 50% while a v6 needs to run at 80% to get the same effect. What a sweet ass engine. Slap a vtech on that and I bet we will see 98 honda civics with this engine in it 😂😂☠️☠️😂😂

@chiphill48568 ай бұрын
Life jackets aren't a requirement unless you are under age. I'm not sure why I see so many life jacket comments on KZbin. But the simple fact is that the vast majority of boaters do not wear life jackets unless they have to enter the water for some reason, including sinking. You are obviously not a boater, so no harm done.

I'm probably "in the wrong" just by custom; but a product that creates torque by piston and combustion is an engine; if it's done with wires and magnetic induction, it's a motor. It shouldn't bother me, but it does.

While that is true of most outboard engine brands, Honda is the largest engine manufacturer in the world. The boat captain seemed very proud to point out that this is Honda's first V8 production engine ever, so I can only presume that they are the manufacturer of this engine.

@@fishermansfriend6197 Hello, I currently own and have operated 4 Suzuki 350’s. I also know of 3 other companies in my city that have a dozen Suzuki’s between us all. Every single motor has had catastrophic failure due to the engine itself. We are professionals. We do not do this for pleasure. We run seasonal business and catastrophic failure of our engines means we lose revenue. We are all licensed mariners who want their boats to run top notch. They motors are not top notch. Our mechanic has fought with Suzuki to warranty our motors. This is single worst engine I have ever encountered in my 25+ years of work on boats. I am glad that you have one 175 Suzuki that runs great. 🎉 I hope it continues to run great for you. But I will scream the heavens and anyone else who will listen that this motor is terrible, will take all the fun out of boating and burn all your money up. Stay far far away from Suzuki’s outboards!!!
@removefromme16 күн бұрын
Those are junk. Stator is very weak. 54A stator on a "Flagship Outboard" is an absolute joke. Their 300HP has the same weak stator. Same charging rate as an inline 4 Mercury and Yamaha. Head gasket issues are a known problem. We got one at work with less than 400 hours and it has severe water contamination in the oil. Lower unit driveshaft seals are poorly designed. It's a rare for one of the lower units to NOT have water intrusion.
