Great review! “The way to look at this is not as a digital saxophone but as an instrument in its own right.” Thank you for saying this! 😁 Windsynths are fun, interesting, and wildly expressive - but if your goal is to sound exactly like a saxophone or other acoustic instrument, you’ll likely be disappointed with any of them. If you look at them as a fun expressive way to play a synth using some of your saxophone techniques, though, I think a lot of people will really enjoy them. (Caveat: I am a windsynth player who is not, and never really has been, a saxophonist…though I did play a lot of trumpet 20+ years ago 😁).

If it worked as a reliable MIDI controller with lots of custom key assignment slots (looking disappointedly at Aerophone Go with its 10 slot limit), it could be quite good. I'm still looking for a reliable small MIDI wind controller that could at least partially match WARBL2 ...

This is the first competitor to the Roland Aerophones that ticks enough boxes to even warrant my consideration. It has a bite sensor and it doesn't have Akai's annoying touch pads. Those two fundamental criteria eliminated the rest of the wind synth market from my choices. If it had motion sensors and a pressure sensitive thumb pad, I would consider one as a backup to my AE-30 but only as a MIDI controller because obviously it doesn't compare with the ZEN-Core sound engine. My only question is whether it would fit in a standard airline carry-on.

Just measured it for you. The case dimensions are 55x17x12cm (approx), whilst the NES-1 is 52x4x10cm (approx). As far as I can tell it should fit in a carry on.

Quite an ingenious design with a host of features, though a tad unwieldy. However, sounds of the saxophone, violin and many other instruments, including the chinese erhu, guzheng and hulusi, do not sound organic and realistic enough. They are too electronic/ digital in timbre, and are nowhere close to the awesome Roland sound banks. The Nux website doesn't mention the price. You are only navigated to the dealers who sell it.
