Did I miss or was it not said in the video - the model of the Octavia? Since in there is no VRS logo in the front and you mentioned yourself, that it is not RS, I am wondering which is it: Ambition, Style or Sportline? Thanks Thomas, excellent review! I like this one, especially the interior is quite nice. I think they went one step higher up the ladder with this, making things hard for the Golf. VW makes some weird cost cutting choices, like the lack of gas struts for the hood in the Golf that the Octavia does have, and with regards to the material quality in the interior. The lane keep assist already irritated me in your review, so I would not have to spend any money on that feature! :-)

Maybe this is why for the first time Octavia is more expensive than Golf? Even though the cheaper 150 HP Golf is equipped with a more expensive rear suspension (multi-link) vs. Octavia (torsion beam)?!?! After checking in several markets the pricing of identically configured (engine+options) Octavia and Golf, it turns out Golf is cheaper than Octavia.

About the seat leon and the led matrix headlights. There are many jurnalists who say that the leon has an optional 22 led matrix headlights but there isn't any mention of matrix in the official release guide. So, does the leon have matrix or it doesn't?

Not yet available. We are expecting it with the first facelift or a model year change of the Seat Leon, but it indeed does not start with that option.

The big problem with VW group is: ARE NOT RELIABLE AT ALL. My wife has a Golf and always has serious VERY expensive problems. Rubbish cars..especially transmissions and engines. At 130.000 kms whole automatic transmission broke down. Before 1 month at 140.000 kms, the engine chain needed to be changed. Should be last at least for 250.000 kms. Now, again engine makes noises like a truck..Needs again service. And when you try official services they do the best not to fix any malfunctions under warranty. 5 years ago, i was looking to buy a VW car and i asked a friend mechanic, working for lots of years at road assistance. He informed me , VW Group cars are the most vehicles he picks up from the roads. I also asked several services which manufacturer produces the most reliable cars. The answer was always the same. Toyota or Lexus. German manufacturing industry ,has this issue always..Even from the world wars.. Complicated technology in tanks that were breaking all the time and needed hours & experienced technicals to maintain them. Russians were poor in technology but their tanks were reliable, easy-fast to fix. So, if you want a fancy car for maximun 9 - 10 years ,before serious problems start, buy any german car you like.. You want a vehicle that will last at least , for 15 - 20 years & 300.000 kms ? Choose Lexus or Toyota..Fact Ask your local honest - independent mechanics. Your money..Your choice.

I did the Salar de Uyuni tour in Bolivia a while back. We travelled in Toyota Landcruisers, all with over 200k km and one had 450k km, being driven off road all their lives. Doubt any other off roader could have managed the same.

!!!!! Lack of real buttons for the multimedia and climate control systems !!!!! Inconvenient, not user friendly and also dangerous while driving. Quality of Skoda cars is great. Let's be honest, Skoda is cheap ( not that cheap), but what u get with that price, plus quality of materials, is great and wonderful. Was driving test (new) Octavia 2.0 TDI DSG 3 days ago, but been driving gas cars for 7 years now. I was soooo surprised when waiting at gas station, how loud the machine is. It's like a tractor. But fuel economy is great tho ... was driving it sportier, 5.3l/100km was consumption.

Thank you Thomas. I was comparing this car to the ford focus active x estate. I think Skoda have nailed it with the front design. On the inside I really like the way the bold chrome trim drops around the information screen. However, the ford has multi link on all engines with the Active X, plus the drive is superior. Similar pricing. I've gone for the Ford. Nice review though!

Škoda is a real competition now for VW or Seat. No more silly jokes which where right BTW. My 1st car was Škoda estelle 120 and yes it was OK when working well but it would overheat so often was pathetic... 2nd car was Opel Vectra(cavalier) 1.6 and omg it felt like a Mercedes back then😅 I really hope Škoda will make sure the Superb will be made still in Czech Republic...❤️

Thx for the wind noise review. Very helpful. About the Leon: only the 1.5 48V engine seems to have a strange brake feel. Not the others. As I understand, it has something to do with recharging while braking (or something like that). Not only with the Leon, but also with the other cars that use the 1.5 48V (like the Scala). Very curious if you notice it with the Leon ST (and also about the wind noise).

This all digital system is a massive fail from Volkswagen group. I won't buy a car without simple dials for the hvac. They seem to be three years behind other manufacturers who are going back to hvac dials. Check out how Jaguar/Landrover/RangerRover do it.

Nice car, but not measuring the depth of the trunk... Now I have to search on, to find your video, where you measure it. It is a very good habit, measuring the depth of the trunk, keep it. Having the volume in Liters is nice, when you want to compare trunks, but completely useless, if you need to know, if you can fit something long, or wide in the car and not only 1L tetrapacs of milk.

Great Review including the detailed suspension opitions (auch auf Deutsch🇩🇪). Very good comparison between the VW group siblings and also mention how it differs from MB on higher speeds. Admirable detail including gas struts for the engine compartment, the note on the OK feeling of the break pedal and the physical button for the driving mode. I like the "denim look" on the top of the inside door panels and top part of cockpit. Would look great with a "Thomas blue" car.🟦 Electric seats also are a big plus. Very funny test with finding the Friedrichstrasse.. The Canton sound system gives good sound (thumbs up for the nice piece of music with the female artist💃) Very nice functionalities with the ski hatch compared eg with Leon which has more basic functionality on this part. The Leon seems to have more stylish view themes for the digital cockpit and also more innovative interior lighting that is connected to eg side assistant. I think we'll gonna see a lot of new Octavias on the road. Also very relaxing video with some birdsong included..🐦

Just ordered my hatch SE yesterday; can't wait, got to drive an SEL estate and I loved it as soon as I let the clutch up. Have to say I couldn't hear the A/C working; though it definitely was. I've honestly only driven one smoother, quieter car; and that was a Bentley Eight back in the early 90's.

That's weird. I checked the Bulgarian Skoda Octavia and only the Skoda Octavia Ambition doesnt have the digital instruments, while the Style does have them. So that's very weird :/

I found the whole visualization a bit low contrast...the Leon has bigger Icons which are color coded like on a smartphone. In the Skoda everything has the same pale color, just a bit harder to differentiate.

The 3rd generation looked WAY BETTER! Especially the ass of the car! This one is lost it's essence! No more Batmobile anymore :(
