Re: the lady pilot: look up the amazing woman flying pioneer, Pancho Barnes. She was a true woman pioneer and made racing history. After her retirement she found it exciting to build and operate the famous Happy Bottom Riding Club just off the base at Edwards where the ‘50’s test flying programs were conducted. She knew all the fliers and was a part of the injury that inconvenienced Chuck Yeager on his historic sound barrier breaking flight. There are fascinating books and even movies about her and the most exciting time in aviation second only to the Wright Brothers.
