From the beginning, I think pretty much everyone expected her to be a terrible mother due to the fact that she sent Luz to a camp that was supposed to "fix" her. But then I learned that she loves Luz just the way she is. She was always doubting her abilities, especially in raising her, as so many people talked about her daughter being weird and how the parents failed her.

I like to think that a lot of that was losing her husband at a time Luz needed him most. Tween and teenage years are a vulnerable time, and it definitely seems that Manny was an anchor to both Camila and Luz. Losing him made them both lost in different ways, and it was harder for Camila to take care of Luz and harder for Luz to express herself in a healthy manner.
