But Tony is greater fighter than justin. He was already 36 when he fought justin. Those people who are watching ufc for a decade, they now that Ferguson’s skill, agility, technique everything is greater than Justin. He was on khabib's level

His resume of wins is better than majority of the history of UFC Champions! We are literally witnessing a “one of a kind” fighter as we speak and need to enjoy every moment because it will eventually end. Reminds me of Robbie Lawler. Last of a dying breed. If I could see any single fighter live today, Gaethje would be the top of my list. He violent, skilled, iron chinned and lion hearted. I can’t say enough about a guy who works his balls off and does it the right way! I hope he has one more run in him and can become undisputed champ. He deserves it!

This "last of their kind" sentiment is so weird to me in sports, everyone thinks the athletes of their generation are the best to ever do it and won't be surpassed but they will all be surpassed by the very nature of sport, everything in sports is building off the past knowledge, training, coaching, technology and physical therapy among other things are constantly improving allowing athletes to reach new heights. Bolts records will eventually fall, some player will surpass Messi and Ronaldo and become the undisputed greatest, people thought nobody would surpass Roger Federer in tennis but Djokovich already has and Carlos Alcaraz will more than likely make his career look mediocre by the time he retires. My point here isn't that the future Athletes are going to invalidate the accomplishments of their predecessors but that we should acknowledge that sports history has a generally linear growth pattern and that its not really fair to compare previous greats to modern day athletes because the game has changed, instead we should appreciate the high standards that previous generations of athletes set so the current age has such a high bar to chase, for example if Micheal Jordan hadn't elevated the NBA as a whole as well as the GOAT status to the level he did who knows what kind of Lebron we would have seen or if he would have even been in the league at all if he didn't have that idol to look up to coming up in the game as well as that highly sought after GOAT status he chased his whole career. Long story short respect the new and old generations there are always gonna be incredible standout athletes in every discipline and we should just appreciate instead of comparing everyone.

@@evannatteford1784 my comment had zero to do with accomplishments and almost 100% to do with their blood and guts style of doing it. The sport gradually moves away from this naturally. It becomes more skill based and less heart and will to win from a guy to succeed. Look at football for example. You’ll never see the hits you did in the past as the game becomes safer. You no longer see physicality as a weapon that teams once used because the product changed. This doesn’t mean a player can’t accomplish wat guys before him did but the style in which they did it has changed. That’s what I mean. Gaethje and Poirier are the last of a dying breed.
@mb4266
@mb4266 6 ай бұрын
@@evannatteford1784 You complete misunderstand what is meant when I say “last of their kind” here. I’ve been a fan of UFC and underground fighting since early Liddell/Wanderlei/Hendo/Diaz and also the Kimbo/Gamebred fight club days and I’ve followed ever since. I appreciate that the sport is more about talented practitioners and highly skilled athletes vs blood and guts brawlers and street fighters thrown in a cage. My point is referring to the style in which guys like DP and Gaethje fight as the game is evolving. It’s already began and will only continue to see less and less “tough guys” going out on their shields each and every time they fight, as these guys do. The days of Lawler v MacDonald are gone. That cut on Robbie’s lip or the damage Rory sustained would be cause for a stoppage today. Not that I’m opposed to that. Protecting fighters is important. However, some of the fights we were privileged to see were not just amazing, they are stamped in my memory and the thought of them literally stirs up physical emotion seeing guys leave their literal heart in the cage. I hope this makes more sense than my original comment. I love this sport and I am aware of the perpetual growth in skill, science, understanding that comes with it and that’s great. I am just moved whenever I see guys like these 2 go to war because I know that they are a special breed of fighter that doesn’t come along too often.

Something about Gaethje and his fearlessness reminds me of Matt Hughes. I know Matt was a grappler/ wrestler but was relentless. Gaethje has better hands and kicks but his stamina and power helped improve his ground game. Mostly through just waiting for someone to get knocked out!!!
