Interesting thing that happened in my thorium playthrough, while I was looting the dungeon one of the hardmode biome chest was unlocked, and inside I found a fishbone (A hardmode bard weapon) which made pre-hardmode and pre-plantera a cake walk. Must have been really lucky with the world generation or something.

Something similar happened to me. I am in a playthrough with calamity and thorium. In the dungeon I found an astral chest. I was able to open it for some reason and got the heavenfallen stardisk which has around 200 dmg so pre hardmode was basically over

Things that can probably help you in your thorium run if you're new to thorium (pre-hardmode stuff) : After summoning the Star Scouter, you can lead it below the space layer again without it enraging or despawning (Trust me, I did this during my playthrough, helps alot if you aren't used to the low gravity in space despite the lower layers of space having near normal gravity). If you're struggling with Viscount's attack where it turns you into a bat, try streaming the green spirals (a term usually o used in bullet hell games, tl;dr moving slowly so that a stream of bullets form) by slowly moving to the opposite side (or just continue in the direction you're heading) of the arena while on ground. To avoid Grand Thunder Bird's dash attack more easily, it's more advised to prepare an arena with a set of platforms above you. To make Granite Energy Storm and The Buried Champion's attacks easier, prepare an arena by mostly flattening out the marble biome (TBC) and making a box arena (GES). To not get hit by Queen Jellyfish's water vortex attack, make atleast a line of platforms where you can hook onto and just keep attacking the smaller jellyfish.

Tricks I (accidentally) discovered a couple years ago: If you die and then go to the marble caves position but a lot higher, you can continue the fight. If you die during the ragnorak battle and fly up, you can continue the fight. I don’t know if this works, I have recently started a multimod play through including Thorium, but other than that I haven’t done a complete play through of Thorium.

Really, all you need is herme's and a long platform. None of the attacks can touch you if you keep moving except for the blast that shoots sideways after the laser beam, which is fairly easy to time jumping over.
