Part of it was Minecraft took a big hit in popularity for a couple years, and that hurt Etho’s drive and his content suffered for it. But then he got reinvigorated and now his stuff is even better than before

The other thing is etho got a lot of his early growth from the Mindcrack group, which kinda fizzled out of existence to the point where I see no one talk about them anymore. Im honestly just impressed with him that he survived its collapse at all

@@evantyler8647 I think Etho’s fan base wasn’t really tied to Mindcrack and a lot more with being one of the original and popular Minecraft KZbinrs back then. Along with his fan base being one of the larger among the Mindcrackers that he would I guess be the one letting others being discovered rather than the other way around. So his departure meant his fan base was still mostly retained.

Etho was for a small period extremely well respected within the early Redstone community alongside with Mumbo but then his inconsistency and other priorities didn’t make him maintain that growth

As a small content creator, this was inspiring and rejuvenating, Ren's first 3 years matches mine, and MCSkizzle lost subs every day for like 2 weeks while smaller, really puts things in perspective

Etho getting massive growth and then just pulling the handbrake is kinda sad. The guy was *the* Minecraft KZbinr and actually made many hermits (including XisumaVoid) start on KZbin, Xisuma said that when he joined in Season 3, it was like a "full circle moment".

He’s still got a good community, bigger isn’t always better. You can envy the sub counts of more modern MC youtubers, but people like Etho and Philza have the real og audiences, and that’s something that Grian or Dream or any of the newer content creators can only dream (

Etho is still a big deal, and still growing. I didn't start watching him until he joined season 7, and don't really have much interest in watching his single-player series since it's been going for many years, but I can definitely tell that he's extremely smart and fun to watch, with a sense of humor and a unique style that really appeals to me. I mean, he invented the hopper clock, and continues to innovate in many ways.

Around Season 7 you can see all the Hermits get a boost in subs. Actually, everyone did from the quarantine. I remember when I started watching Scar's videos during the Mayoral Race in HC Season 7, and he had under 1 million, but in literally a few episodes after, he reached 1 million subs :D Scar is one of my favorite Hermits, alongside BDubs. Speaking of, I'm really surprised to see how long and how big BDub's channel was from early on! And of course, man, we all need to sub to Ren, he's been making videos literally forever, he has high production value on HC videos and SUCH a fun voice and character, he really deserves better TwT!

He has so many subscribers because he is this chill :) He wouldn't be as popular if his "status" would rise to his head. Grians videos are great for all ages which is why he is this popular. A lot of youtubers whose fame changed their personality tend to exclude a big part of potential viewers (generally speaking adults).

I feel that it aligns with a general slowdown of minecraft on youtube. Additionally, there was a period where he would only upload one or two videos a month.

it's basically how often he uploads. he basically never changed, and I don't mean that in a bad way but because of not optimizing for the algorithm with thumbnails and the likes he didn't really grab the attention of people, but that being said because of his never changing ways the community has grown to etho as etho and has been a legend because of it. he didn't let KZbin control him, he just wanted to play minecraft.

I don’t know why, but when I look back, I feel proud and happy for them in a sense, and I’m glad they’ve found a way to continue posting and doing what they love ❤️. That’s another reason for ya to wholeheartedly throw subs at other creators: they’re seriously underrated and deserve your love. I can't imagine what Hermitcraft was like before Grian joined. I had watched a few Mumbo videos to learn how to make a couple simple redstone things, the next thing I know I'm sucked into Hermitcraft via the hot potato game Grian started. i stumbled upon hermitcraft by chanse some years ago...also foloowed grian for years..so it was a match made in heaven for me :) thou the person i started following is no longer playing (2 of them tbh) I still stayed a hermit supporter :)

Man it's crazy to see how long ren etho and bdubs have been grinding. I remember watching the first episode of ethos Let's play when it came out and he has been on of my favorite minecrafters since.

Watching Grian now and him still staying extremely high up there with the big KZbinrs kind of surprises me because, to me, Grian was one of the KZbinrs apart of my childhood, and most of those KZbinrs from back then don’t really have the same type of popularity they do now and have kind of fallen off, so it’s weird for me to see but I respect the ability to keep up! Same with all the others!! I didn’t watch them when I was smaller (except Joel, he’s also kind of like Grian in that way to me) but based on this they’ve been doing KZbin for a while, so props!

I still remember when I started getting Grian's videos as recommendations. At first, I thought that it was a small youtuber starting and got hooked to his videos, funnily enough, that was like 2 weeks before he joined hermitcraft and before I realized the guy exploded in popularity, like to this day he still feels like a small youtuber that does it for fun but he's actually one of the bigger minecraft youtubers iirc
