What really gets me about Dorothea's S is how it's written. She's been in so many romance operas and been in so many relationships that when she sees someone actually pull out a ring, she gets shocked. Then her usual confidence falls away as she accepts she's been beaten at her own game, but she's still confused. Then she realizes: Byleth well and truly loves her. Not adoration. Not admiration. Not a crush. A real, full on "I love you and I would want nothing more than to spend the rest of my life with you" kind of love. And she just kinda breaks out of sheer joy.

You've got to dig around a bit to learn everything about her (Lysithea's support and Byleth's support with her reveal a lot) and then you have to put the pieces together yourself but she's...honestly the most well written character in the game, to be honest. I definitely wouldn't love it remotely as much without her in it, that's for sure.

Clearly both myself and Dimitri need the professor for emotional support and Claude doesn't, his motives are to just use you but he does sell it all perfectly because most people are easily buying what he's selling, although I believe at the end he really becomes a genuine friend. Back to myself, the professor is really the only person who really sees me as their equal, Byleth never kisses my ass like Hubert and I really like that. Both Byleth and myself are no longer bound by our crests in the end as well, I'm sure you paid attention to that. I will say my route needs more chapters, we never killed my uncle and his goons on screen which was disappointing but it's fine even if offscreen it still happens either way. But yes marrying the professor leads to one great ending in my opinion. I realize I sidetracked all over the place with this comment but you're someone who really puts attention to detail on the game so it feels right to talk about all this.

@@edelgardvonhresvelg372 Yeah, that was something that bothered me-Crimson Flower only had 18 chapters compared to Claude and Dimitri getting 22-it didn't feel complete. Edelgard's biggest enemy was Those Who Slither and she dealt with them in the ending flavor text? Not to mention she only has one cutscene compared to the other paths available-it left a bad taste in my mouth. And oftentimes it felt like her character development in her own path wasn't thought out completely-I would've liked to see her at her lowest the way we see Dimitri and how heavily Byleth completely impacts her to parallel the way Byleth impacts Dimitri in Blue Lions. It would've been poetic, honestly-Edelgard and Dimitri have the same goal, just different ways of going about it (and different levels of church support). I agree about the Claude thing, too-I really wish the fandom acknowledged him as actually being clever and tricky instead of just making him the friendly meme guy. He's honestly got a great characterization too-everybody does! Claude and Dimitri and Edelgard all feel like real people and that's incredible-I just wish the fandom would stop infantilizing Dimitri, disregarding Claude's achievements, and demonizing Edelgard. They're all morally grey characters with matching ideals but with different ways of going about those ideals. (Edelgard I theorize is so quick to war not only because she feels so isolated, thus not giving her the room to be comfortable about speaking to her goals with Dimitri or Claude without fear of being sold out to Rhea for treason, but also because she is _dying._ Lysithea I consider a very important part of Edelgard's story because she gives us a lot of information on what having two crests is like. It's never outright stated that Edel will die, but with the endings she simply "vanishes" in and the fact that she's so quick to go to war makes me feel like she's going to die young like Lysithea.) Edelgard is the most complex and tragic character of the game, and I honestly get a little upset sometimes, seeing people wave away her character completely in preference to the image of her they have in her head. She's deeply flawed, yes, but that's what makes her so damn compelling.

people arguing about how not every character should have gay/lesbian s supports because it isn't "realistic" don't realize that other games have done this well and it benefits everyone. having an entire cast of characters to choose from for romance, especially where the dialogue of the support conversations doesn't change regardless of gender, just feels more natural than handpicking options for the player. i don't see the need to argue whether people desiring more options is shoving their sexuality in your faces when their individual playthrough of the game wouldn't effect you at all if you weren't picking gay ones anyways? when byleth is the player's POV of the story,, it would make sense for everyone who plays it to be able to play instinctively.
