I've been debating about selling my Protege (as I don't drive it as often as I used to) but watching you go over your mods makes me miss driving mine. Time has taken it's toll on the outside and the engine but the little 1.6L engine is still hanging on. Good job keeping the Protege alive. Cheers!

The wires for the power side mirrors should be right there for those cars in Taiwan, whether manual or power drive. All you need is a switch to replace. And the JDM right drive side mirror, you may need those in Taiwan. It's same as JDM but left drive as in US.

I'm normally a Honda guy but I picked up a 2002 dx 2.0L 5spd and its bone stock and its pretty quick I'd compare it to being as quick as a swapped LS or B20 civic. I would love to strip it down nice and clean like that and throw some boost on it. Shit even 8lbs would be fun.

Just got my brothers fiance's 2002 Mazda protege for $450 bone stock except for the cold air intake and radio.i had a tick. Coming from what soundz like the flywheel? How much is stuff for this car? Is this doable without a lot of money

Could be a throw out bearing issue. Stuff isn’t too expensive for these cars generally. Assuming you can find the parts and do most of the work yourself.

01-03 are the best imo. They all came standard with the 2.0, mine has been super reliable.

Hey! I'm in the process of inheriting a barely used Protege from a relative (~4k miles in the last decade and a half) with a total of around 59k miles at the moment. The model is very stock without any front/rear lip and skirts and I'm just wondering how to go about finding some? I'm somewhat new to cars and have never had a project car so I'd like to start looking at lip options to change the overall silhouette of the car and lower it a bit. I plan on changing the rims later on to something a little more classy for my tastes, but I'd like to make the front and sides more squarish and lower to ground. Any tips on where to look for lips and skirts would be highly appreciated! I've searched everyday for months but haven't found a single other Protege on the streets so looking to make this car stand out a bit! Also since I'm new to cars, any info on price suggestions/averages for these kinds parts would be really helpful

Parts are getting hard to find for these now. Luckily the side skirts came factory on the Protege5 (hatchback) model, so there's plenty of those around. Best bet is Facebook marketplace/groups or a junkyard.

Get the car going again!! I'm probably going to do the all red tail lights. I got the mp3 for $600 on ebay and have dumped too much into it but I love it. I'm going the fast route though and would love to do the engine bay shave. That looks awesome

Anyone know where to find a front strut bar for an 03 Mazda protoge? I found one in a kit from eBay but had to beat on the hood a little to make it fit. Bracket was hitting when you closed the hood.

Not sure what Mazda protégé it came off but the brackets on it weren’t lining up with with my strut tower and the bolt holes on it. Seemed like it would probably have worked well if the brackets bolted up. Thanks for the suggestion.

I still drive the same 2002 Mazda Portage that I drove it off the lot brand new in 2002 and it still runs like new. I have 173,000 miles. Got it painted black about 8 years after the paint started to fade. Black tint with black rims, looks nicer than most cars I pass today.

Awesome broski did not know u had a protégé...... my first car was a red 93 5 speed one with the single cam 1.6 lol 😆..... i rebuild the diff in my miata atm myself it detonate the other day pulling out driveway both pinion bearings went n mess up pinion and ring gears ..... weak 1.6 rear n e way but rebuilding till do 1.8 swap .... n e way broski love the content I thinking start uploading vids on my 91 wile I doing work on it n the project it plans to be ..... but yeah n e ways later broski have fun stay safe
