Cool story man, and cool of those guys to reach out to you. I think if I had so many copies of one book I'd probably trade a lot of them, or give some of them away to people who are really into the character, but with that many you can experiment - maybe send one each that look the same condition-wise to each company for grading, compare & contrast? That would be cool. It's funny though the speculation after so many years. I did a small amount of spec back in the 80s, I was sure that the b&w and indie comics of the time were going to be BIG some day, in part because they had much smaller print runs than the big 2. 35-40 years later I don't see my 10 copies of American Flagg #1 buying me a house or even a phone lol. I did better on some things - Starslayer 2, Destroyer Duck 1, Turtles - but not so well that it really makes up for all of the wastepaper that I have taking up space. Well, that's why just a few books are worth tons of money - because most people weren't that savvy, and so there aren't that many of them in 9.8 or whatever. Live and learn.

I was doing a painting job for a friend's mom. Nice person and I was happy to do it. Long story short I got a milk crate of free comics and one of the books that was in there was Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #8 and a full run of that series. I love when surprises fall in your lap. Makes up for the time I let my G.I. Joe action figure collection get sold cause I didn't go and get it from my parents house. Yard sale UGH!!!

FYI The Doctor Strange 15 has a few 1st appearances, and singer Amy Grant sued Marvel over using her likeness on the cover, so it's a good book to have for a few reasons! I saw it when you were flipping through them, but didn't notice you highlight it with the "keys".

To follow up on your comments at 15:00 about the Savage Fists of Kung Fu treasury, those other three treasuries contain some classic tales. (They appear starting at the 7:50 mark or so). Among other things, the Giant Superhero Team-Up (aka Marvel Treasury Edition 9) includes a reprint of the Thor vs. Hulk story from Journey Into Mystery 112; the '74 edition of Giant Superhero Holiday Grab-Bag includes Wally Wood's Daredevil vs. Sub-Mariner story from Daredevil issue 7, and the Thor treasury (aka Marvel Treasury Edition 10) reprints the titanic saga of the Mangog from Thor 154-157 and (I think) is the first publication to do so. All of these mothballin' Marvel masterpieces are worth your time, or so I think.

Hey James, that Dr. Strange that you showed on-camera...that is a "recalled" comic. The picture of the woman in the background is Amy Grant, a Pop Christian singer who sued Marvel for using her pic. w/out permission. It was settled out of court. Very cool you were able to get this collection. Never know what value may be in the cards too! Perhaps submit and share the "wealth" with the brothers that gave you the collection or give them a slabbed key each? Good luck & have fun with all the research and reading!

Comic karma at its best. I don't come across those Marvel Treasury Editions as much as I used to. I also think that sending a few of those Ghost Riders off to CBCS is a good idea. It's also mild trade bait for someone that might be missing that from that run. The sports cards look like typical 90s fair as well. If the packs within the boxes are clean there may be some interest among collectors. That market had a similar spike to the comic book market. The unopened packs became very popular in that period.

Oh any Variant Nintendo related? I’ve been going after those ( Mario, Zelda, Gameboy)comics .. you should look into those buddy for your collection. I know we talked about EGS ( which you kindly showcased on a episode) .. I just did this month’s PGX unboxing .. previously they graded my Ghostrider 28 (9.4) but mine is a newsstand because people usually have the nagged version… another overlooked Ghostrider key 🔑 that is overlooked is Marvel Spotlight 6 ( 2nd appearance) .. that Superman/Shazam/Black Adam is another great pick up .. a lot of fun thanks 4 sharing!
