So nice of you to have local veterans with a business doing work. So many lights using different systems, battery, propane, in case one fails. Caleb is going to be comfortable.

What a blessing to have lights, heat and water all before winter hits! I live in British Columbia Canada 🇨🇦 and our winters are typically pretty mild compared to your standards but if you can believe it, we had a dusting of snow in our mountain passes yesterday lol, we are such babies about snow here that I was digging out all my winter gloves, scarves and boots so I’m ready just incase and I just moved back here from Saskatchewan two years ago and there we would often have several weeks with temperatures in the mid -30 Celsius and then if you got high winds “LOOK OUT” 🥶so I’m very happy for all of you!

We have a remote place we use recreationally. I’ve been running a Honda 2000 for close to 20 years. Before I got solar I would run it every other night for a few hours to charge the batteries for our 4K 48v charger/inverter. Now In the summer I only run it when running power tools as I put solar in over ten years ago.i built a small insulated box for it that I can adjust the airflow to keep it warm when running in the winter. I run synthetic oil in it so the oil shutdown doesn’t shut it down when starting it in the cold. I have an hour meter and it has run over 1,000 with no problems. All our lights are on a separate 12v system. I used to use propane lights , the problem with them is they make lots of moisture, heat and the cost of running them.

Y’all have done such a great job with the cabin. Caleb is going to really enjoy living there. It is beautiful. We are back from visiting your beautiful state of Alaska. We rode through Wasilla on a bus and I waved out the window. I’m sure you felt where you live!! The snow capped mountains are gorgeous. I really enjoyed seeing Wasilla as we rode through. We stayed a couple of days in Anchorage while our son was with us. He flew up with us and stayed two days and then flew back home. What love!! I love seeing y’all getting ready for the snow.

@modernhomesteadalaska
@modernhomesteadalaska Жыл бұрын
We would need to blow out all the trees on one side of the property for it to be enough light. We will look into something for the summer to not run gas. But as far as winter. We won’t use solar. In fact few if anyone here can get that much light.z

Those propane lights are a poor choice. My cabin had them in it when I got it. We found two spare ones that were new. We also found several around the cabin that had burn marks on the back. As luck would have it one started bury the wall while Tyler and I were in the cabin. After that we realized why so many old one’s laying around and that’s why the two new spares. We removed all of them and trashed them.
@modernhomesteadalaska
