It's got power windows, but a 3-speed manual transmission instead of Packard's Ultramatic. Very interesting! I remember seeing on the Internet a couple of years ago a '65 Pontiac Bonneville limousine owned by a mortuary that strangely also had a 3-on-the-tree.

yessir you may recall that Pontiacs slogan was "we build excitement". And from your description of that '65 they definitely lived up to that slogan 😎 So was it a hearse or a livery type "funeral car?"

It was a basic 4-door Bonneville that had been stretched into a limo (which likely accompanied the hearse during funerals). It was dark blue, and the interior shots clearly showed the clutch pedal and the shifter being mounted on the steering column. It was hard to imagine the driver rowing through the gears as he or she drove to the cemetery...@@resetsetmefree478

Did Packard get shutdown because they built cars that lasted? Almost every Packard I've seen is built so well, they are still tight, don't rattle and just seem like they are going to run forever.

In the 1950s I saw a few Buick hearses which looked a lot like Packards but never seem to see any in hearse collections today were there just so few that not many survived. They had similar profile to Packard but never see any surviving.. Have you co across any?

Thanks for the reply. They must have been rare. A funeral home in Bristol, Tn./Va. had one in the early 50s, but I’ve never seen any others. Heaven knows what happened to them. I have seen several more recent Buick hearses, but haven’t been able to find any others from 50s. It was a small funeral home; & I can’t remember the name. Be interesting if any survived. I know same is true for some early Chrysler imperials & & I think there’s only photo of one of those surviving.
