Galaxies are superb to watch, but that Alpha and driver were the most truly well paired human/machine on the track. Pure confidence and brute force attacks, in straights and corners. Carmie- rules are rules, and rules are made to accommodate the mannerisms of all vehicles, just like we do in society, with all people...Big fat obnoxious American cars have equal rights. I am doing my part to build another, although it will not be for racing, but more of a tribute to it's entertainment value
@carmiethompson2676
@carmiethompson2676 2 жыл бұрын
@@email4664 I had no question about the rules. If a driver isn't on the track, said driver can't hold a higher position. That is what Mr. Hart did. He didn't let up, was on the grass & not qualified for the 2nd place position. But like I was asking Mr. McRae, I tried to find the 'part 2' race results & couldn't find any. Only found the results for part 1. I wonder what happened?
@garethmcrae668
@garethmcrae668 2 жыл бұрын
@@carmiethompson2676 From the Goodwood site: 1 Shepherd 2 Hart 3 Fisken The marshalls will have looked at it I'm sure- even the commentators were not clear how this would be ruled. Thing is there is more than one rule comes into play in this scenario- sure, there is the 'gaining unfair advantage' from missing out the chicane. Hard to ignore the 'fully alongside' rule though. Hart was on the grass because he had been deprived of the ability to stay on track due to the fat Ford consuming all of the track width- ie not making any allowance for the Giulia by staying on the power and drifting ever wider. The Alfa's had established through both races that they could take that wide line but stay within track limits and take the chicane... Suppose it was judged that the final track positions reflected a fairer outcome than swapping 2 and 3.

Superb three days of racing and thank you so much to Goodwood whose very name anywhere on YT is a magnet and a thumbs up. Loved the shot of the BigGalaxy (it's always going to be one word now after this) pulling up to the camera after the win with 1962 Michigan plate on the front bumper. It is in amazing shape for a 60-year old licence plate! Got its share of TLC as well obviously. Fabulous racing and a massive Thank You to Goodwood Road & Racing, your stuff is always top-notch. As a Ford enthusiast great to see the Galaxie win. I remember them when they came over in the early 1960s and remember seeing them racing at Silverstone the European cars screamed their way round but you could hear those big Galaxies just rumble their way round seemingly unstressed. Great days along with the Ford Falcon Sprints, Mustangs and Chevrolet Camaros.

@@UberLummox Each driver takes their own risks, and the Alpha driver knew the bigger Ford would have more slide in the curve, but he shot for it anyhow- That is stone cold confidence, and knowing the absolute sheer limit of one's car. Both driver's were RACING the heck out of the cars they drove, and the Ford had no way of going anywhere other than where it went- Pure momentum, post-apex. It happens. The physics of it, as well as the clear Gentelmen's nature of this NON-American form of racing, force one to just assume that these two drivers had a convivial laugh over the matter once the cameras were put away. The fact that no penalty was given means that the experts weighed all of the details, and observations, and made their decision. Suspect the spec of the Cortinas is better now as well, after Sir John Whitmore won the ETC in 1965 in a Cortina, he was usually beaten by the Alfas the following year, Jochen Rindt pedalled an Alfa in period.

great stuff...great racing in great REAL cars.....😀 but suggestion......take away the big american cars into a class of their own......that should be interesting, when all on the grid have the same "muscle"..... and a "fair" race for the european/british cars.....i'd like that.......😀

That wouldn't be commensurate with history. The whole point is THESE cars raced each other back then. It is a fair race, and back in the day, the Fords mostly lost because they're just not nimble enough.

@@46wireboy Agreed, the fact that they stay neck-and neck is more that this track has no slow handling sections; it's pretty much wide open the whole way around which favours the big-HP cars.

I'm not sure what to think of those big fat 7 liter yank tanks battling it out with European cars. It seems a bit unfair and unnecessarily dangerous to me.
