Dazai’s backstory is actually only 30% - 50% canon and the rest is theories or stuff that has never been mentioned like his life before he met mori. That’s just what makes him all the more interesting, although some people mistake hcs for canon. “Mori making dazai live in a shipping container” “Dazai dehumanizing himself by living in a shipping container voluntarily” Both are theories, it was never stated which is true. Same with Mori SA-ing ppl. It’s actually surprising how many of these are actually just really popular theories, its more than his actual backstory. I’ve also seen a lot of theories abt his life before meeting mori. The video is amazing, interactions and design are ✨✨

My take on his life past the PM is this: I'm gonna leave it short as my analysis usually exceed the 1k words... and I don't think anyone would be willing to read such a long comment, lol. I believe Dazai's parents were abvsive/ negligent. To emphasize this, Dazai was once offered a place in The Sheep, and The Sheep are notorious for only taking in orphans, abvse victims etc. When Mori was treating Dazai we see that Dazai didn't have bandages on, so we can already discard the theory that The Sheep just assumed he was being abvsed bcs of the amount of bandages, since he wasn't wearing any at the time. Dazai was in that hospital at age 14 for an OD. I came to this conclusion because he's connected to an asphyxiation machine, Mori is Dazai's physician (someone who specializes in medicine) and lastly, Dazai is not wearing hospital clothes, which means submersion is off the tables. Back to his past, one of Dazai most famous quotes is: "Anything I never want to lose, is always lost. This is how it's always been for me. Everything worth wanting is lost the moment I obtain it." Let's think critically, would Dazai say this if it hadn't happened multiple times in his past before? It also shows to us that Dazai's past certainly is not bland. He had actual desires and wants, he actually longed for stuff that he either couldn't reach or lost the moment it was in his possession. I theorize Dazai is talking about both reasons to live and people. Dazai has lost people, reasons to live and this has shaped him into the person he is today. A person that has lost so much to the point their last option was to find what they were longing for in bl00dshed and vi0l3nce. This also tells us Dazai in the past had not partaken in such acts, otherwise he'd know the answer he was trying to find would never lay in the Port M4f!a. Now, back to his parents, tell me, would Dazai land in such bad situations he'd actually have to be wandering in Suribachi City (Remember: Sheep tried to recruit him) if his parents weren't neglectful, abvsive or toxic? Dazai isn't stupid, in fact, his mind excelled that of Mori's even at age 14, having been able to see right through Mori's plans when he used Dazai as a witness to the Old Boss' last words. Why would Dazai willingly wander the grounds of Suribachi city? The city that is known for the biggest crime rate and most amount of g4ngs? It's like willingly walking off to your death, especially for such a small child. And The Sheep wouldn't randomly try to recruit a child they see in the middle of the streets outside of Suribachi, as that is not where their priorities lie. Hence it's safe to conclude Dazai either lived in Suribachi city, or he was searching for something there. End of my story. I have so much more to add, but I think this is enough for now😭

25:40 its not blatantly said BUT mori DOES have an EXCESSIVE habit of being weird to children, he calls elise HIS WIFE and she looks like a child BY HIS CHOICE (that is quite literally the most concrete evidence idk how people just overlook this??) although it was in an omake chapter so idk if it's truly canon but it is STILL weird of the writers to do that, it shows that they have had thoughts about it, his ability is also literally called "vita sexualis" WHICH TRANSLATES TO "sexual life", elise is his "sexual life". It's also been pointed out by fans (and maybe hinted at in canon? don't quote me on this one though.) that she started acting and looking more like yosano after she was sent to the psychiatric facility and then later taken in by ranpo and then also with dazai after he left the port mafia, so yes, it's not SAID but it is HEAVILY hinted at that mori is a total weirdo to children. it's also a bit disrespectful to actual victims to be like "ok buttt wheres the proof?? cuz I didn't SEE that anywhere!! Theres no way that guy would do that ik hes bad but hes not THAT bad!!" it's like saying "oh well, I didn't see it so like how could it have happened, you seemed fine before?? plus hes not THAT bad of a guy he was okay to so-and-so!!", just pointing that out. I hate the idea of it too, but I can't deny that it is VERY possible and very hinted at in canon, I just kind of don't talk about it really, but it's also a good thing to talk about because it spreads awareness for that type of abuse, it's just hard to find a middle ground for it.
