The colour of the ghost mantis depends on the humidity, the higher the humidity the greener they get to try to mimic their surroundings!

Is that true? I got an ghost nymph that was green and kept her at a pretty high humidity with real plants (I don'tuse plastic at all). She's now a yellow brown. I did make the mistake of ordering her from a bad site. Won't name names but most enthusiasts know. She came to me in pre-molt, even though seller says they NEVER ship during pre-molt -__-

Hi Kio, in my old apartment I kept 7 mantises at once. All were raised from an early age on a tree or flower (usually after the third strip). They respected each other, never attacked each other and only moved out of "theyr house" when I wanted to look at them or they "ride at a bus" (my dog - an Afghan Hound). Sometimes he didn't even know about them, but even though he knew, he just sniffed them and let them be. They were alone together and everything was without problems. But it was all just that they didn't need to move away for food. I fed regularly. Today I live elsewhere and mantises are completely free here. Yesterday I discovered Sibylla pretiosa while mowing the grass. She was beautiful! A little lighter in colors than yours in the video. She looked at me, I apologized to her and she flew away. Every year I discover here a new and new species that I have always wanted to breed at home. Here I am very happy to meet them outside. I'll look at them, take a picture and let them go again. A lot of them live in my garden, because every year I plant tall plants with many flowers, on which they really have a lot of food. So just like in the old apartment, they stay all summer on same spot. I only mow the grass and in front of the house I want to let them grow a meadow full of flowers. Already looking forward to it! Have a nice day.

Great vid! I just adopted a miomantis paykulli (my first). Doesn't have wings yet and have it in a 4 x 4.5 inch jar I've turned into a terrarium (with a non-fine cheese cloth for lid) but I'm having trouble finding a good caresheet for the little guy(gal). How often would you recommend feeding it fruit flies and spraying water?
@KioWatanabe
@KioWatanabe 4 жыл бұрын
I usually just feed young mantis once i see no prey is left in the enclosure. They do not overeat so it's good to just feed again when it runs out :) I'd give a slight spray once every day so the mantis can drink

I'm surprised at how little interest and information there is about Mediterranean Mantids (Iris oratoria). I'm raising them from birth. They look like Miomantis Paykulli and are also capable of parthenogenic reproduction, which I believe all my babies were products of. Each egg case is small and doesn't make many babies. I wonder if egg cases that are the result of sexual reproduction are as fertile as those which aren't. I plan on studying them permanently, so maybe I'll know in a few years.

I’m thinking if getting a mantis. I’m 13 and I have a cat and bearded dragon (I’m also extremely gentle). I want quiet a large one as small insects honestly freak me out a bit 😂, also, preferably least expensive- any recommendations? (i have never owned a mantis only Gineau pigs, cats, bearded dragons and snakes) I find them sooooo beautiful and majestic, and would prefer a male (I don’t know how to deal with eggs, however if I decide to get one I will do much more research) what do they eat? And what does a molt look like? Tysm, I love your channel!! ❤️🌈✨

Oh it's a great decision to get a mantis! A large beginner species could be a sphodromantis gastrica or a hierodula membranacea (common mantis and giant asian mantis) dont worry about getting a female as the eggs they lay will be infertile as long as you dont mate them :) you can feed them any flying insect such as flys, moths, locusts... just dont feed crickets. Molts basically look like the praying mantis itself, just translucent 😊 i should make a common mantis questions video! So ask ahead if you want to know more

Strongly disagree with the part about crickets. Aslong as they arent fed carrots and are well kept for they really aren't any harm to mantids. It's just that BBF or HF is preferred for most species.
