I really want a 14.5" Mid Weight, Mid-length Centurion with their quad rail that has that mid-length cut out and front sight base. I wish they still offered that rail extension thay goes in front of the front sight. What a great build, Centurion is quality stuff.

Editor’s Note: Welcome to part two of our three-part Tailor-Made ARs series, a conceptual approach to building task-focused, performance-driven rifles for emergency preparedness. Several RECOIL OFFGRID writers will each take a unique path to designing an idealized AR for survival and crisis response. We’ll examine how each weapon is tailored to the user, and how it can be creatively adapted to a multitude of dicey situations. We hope these builds reinforce the importance of choosing every component wisely with versatility in mind. If you missed part one, you can read it here.

The final essential is illumination, which is crucial for defensive situations, especially at night. A general rule of thumb, especially for carbine lights, is that more lumens are better. With current advances in light technology, 1,000 lumens should be considered the standard for duty or survival use. This will effectively keep a human aggressor blinded and maximize your ability to fully identify a target at the greatest distance in the dark (assuming the light uses an appropriate beam pattern).⭐👍🏻💪🏻👋🏻✌🏻🤝🏻🙏🏻🤙🏻🙏🏻⭐😉😎

What's not to understand, its the shortest rifle you can have without paying a tax stamp. Nobody runs a 13.7-14.7 to get better balistics than a 16, its about the length. Nuf said.

@@patrickwooton966 less than an inch of length compared to a 14.5 does nothing to help length. 13.9 is diminishing returns.
@patrickwooton966
@patrickwooton966 9 ай бұрын
I'm not understanding your logic. How does it do nothing to help length? It's basic mathematics. The number "14.5" is greater than the number "13.9", meaning 13.9 is shorter than 14.5. Also the way you use the phrase "diminishing returns" is incorrect. In this situation the only possible way this could be labeled as a diminished return is if you invested more into the 13.9 than the 14.5 to get less efective BC. You don't have to invest more to get a 13.9. In fact, you can get a 13.9 for less than a 14.5. @@FXIIBeaver

Bro haven’t you heard ? If your rifle don’t cost 5k, it’s not going to work lol. Maybe rethink the optic, if you get in firefight, you really think you will want to stick your head out long enough to acquire target without getting domed ?just saying, these Guntubers push all sorts of horseshit these days.

Truth be told if I make the mistake of getting into a fire fight alone I probably got ambushed which means I’m dead already but if I can somehow being the sole target of an ambush break contact i would be using the red dot as that can hit at 100yards with an belt hold or point aiming under that. In my experience I need PID or observation capabilities over quick aiming on my primary optic, also yes pointing a loaded weapon for observation is not ideal in a safety sense but again real world here is if I’m in a situation that any of this becomes relevant , the safety of potential threats to mine is not going to be my priority because im most likely not going to be patrolling my area in the open like a military force .

When you can handle boarding a vessel with tight spaces with a 22" barrel M-14 having a 16" is grand and I personally won't want to go shorter especially with just 5.56 NATO. Unless it's suppressed and I know the suppressor still ads to the velocity I would be losing with such a short barrel I'd still prefer at least a 16" which compared to the later M16's(mine had the cool old school barrel shroud and the M203) is largely easier to maneuver. I would also forever prefer having a 40mm grenade launcher to NOT having one😂. Hell, I'd pack the MKXII SPR suppressed over all of that in an urban environment and I bloody well would be packing a .45 ACP for clearing buildings.
@TacticalWorkbench
@TacticalWorkbench 6 ай бұрын
Hey you’re preaching to the choir brother , everything I learned was on a 20” A4 , if you can’t handle maneuvering a long rifle then hate to tell you shortening the barrel won’t make up for lack of training. That being said the ranges I’m shooting at it’s more of a trade off between velocity or ease of carrying around. 77gr OTM makes up for any velocity loss on soft targets in my mind for 5.56 but that’s just my opinion

If you have to pin and weld a muzzle device to make it 16 inches why not just have a 16 inch barrel ? That way you have higher velocity and better bullet performance.

Tell me you don’t have a suppressor without telling me you don’t have a suppressor. A suppressor on a 13.7 will be a shorter overall AR than on a 16 inch AR. Even if you don’t have a suppressor the feel of a 13.7-14.5 is different. I enjoy snapping my 14.5 from low/high ready more than my full 16. It just feels better in my opinion.

Cool story. then don’t buy a 14.5 then?? But the military was fine with the ballistics of the M4 carbine. It killed a lot of dudes during the GWOT. Most people’s general purpose rifles and SHTF rifles are 14.5’s. I’m aware the 5.56 round is velocity dependent. But saying it’s better to get a 14.5 300 blackout over a 5.56 is moronic.

@@IkfNorCalChamp don’t know why you’re in such a bad mood, I never said not to get a 14.5, that’s as short as I would go for 5.56, and I want one. Deny it all you want, but .300 blackout is out performing 5.56 in similar barrel lengths, while performing almost identically to 7.62x39. 16” .300 BO has more energy than a 20” 5.56

The chamber is clear, he’s pointing it in a safe direction, he’s treating it as if it was loaded, and his finger is off the trigger. That’s more than enough safety measures. we keep our rifles ready to go and he’s showing that it is indeed ready to go if need be and there’s nothing wrong with that

Pretty sweet build. Well thought out. I'd say take a look at the Primary Arms 1-6 Nova. For the price it's hard to beat and you get that red dot capability. I have one in my PSA Sabre 13.7" and I can distinguish reduced IPSC targets that are shot to shit out to 600 yards and make shot using the reticle out the 500 yards repeatably. At 600 your down into the thinker portion of the crosshair which makes it difficult on smaller targets. P.S. if you do look into getting one, watch Optics Planet. They sometimes do "Email Only" deals and I got my for $288.
