This show took what the Raimi trilogy did right and then heavily improved the comic accuracy, especially in terms of Spider-Man's personality. Don't get me wrong, I loved the movies growing up and they did Peter justice, but Spidey's dialogue felt so dry, it was lacking the quit wit that Spectacular Spider-Man nailed every episode. Raimi laid the foundation for a flawless Spider-Man portrayal and Spectacular Spider-Man finished the job
@Karma-pq9fi3 жыл бұрын
The Spider-Man in the trilogy is more human the “dry” dialogue isn’t wasted it adds to his character. That’s why he has the most emotional connecting scenes. Humor in a lot of peters situations wouldn’t work.
@TheFinalFarewell3 жыл бұрын
@@Karma-pq9fi My point is, in the comics they always found a way to work in a sense of humor when he's Spider-Man as a sort of way of not letting villains see when he's hurt or worried. In the Raimi movies that part of him basically got cut out. Sure he may have had a reason for it, but whether or not it was intentional, it's a crucial part of the character that I personally think should be present in each iteration, otherwise it just feels like Peter and Spidey are the same, when in reality, he let's loose and is more himself when he puts on the mask
@TheFinalFarewell3 жыл бұрын
@@Karma-pq9fi Like, take Into the Spiderverse for example. Spidey knew he was probably on his deathbed when he talked to Miles at the start, but he still cracked a joke or two to not show weakness so Miles would feel safe. His humor is as much for the people as for himself, he laughs at the villains so New York has less to fear knowing he isn't phased (or at least won't show it). That's a big part of who he is. He doesn't just save people, he gives them hope and confidence. Every superhero does the saving the day, but Spider-Man connects with the city in large part because he can make them smile in the darkest times
@Karma-pq9fi3 жыл бұрын
@@TheFinalFarewell but in spiderverse not every Spider-Man I’d the same also it’s a animated kids movie. Him not constantly making quips doesn’t mean he’s not positive

@GodofGears3 жыл бұрын
That's not the reason why it's the best spiderman cartoon. Yes it does take influence from the Sam Rami Spider-Man trilogy but, not a MAJORITY of it. This show is mainly heavily influenced by the 616 main marvel universe Spider-Man specifically the Steve Ditko comics. The fact that this show manages to take some influences from the Rami Trilogy and still manages to feel nothing like those movies, shows how much this show respects the comics and TRUE Spider-Man fans out there. Edit: It's not just made to cash in on the Sam Rami Spider-Man trilogy and to try and please only the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man fans.

Nah, the Raimi films did that better. Realistically, Peter wouldn't immediately learn the lesson like he did in the show. In the film it makes much more sense - the lesson set in slowly after his anger and shock subsided and he was allowed to grieve and reflect. Taking that slower route also allowed the film to have that fantastic scene with Aunt May helping Peter to realize what kind of man Uncle Ben would've wanted him to be. It's pretty obvious that real reason the show had Peter catch the guy before he fell to his death was to adhere to the TV-Y7 rating.

The show pays tribute to Spider-Man’s great history in pop culture. The show pulls from many different eras of comics and writers. Mostly from the Earth 616 comics from the 60’s; but combines them with Brian Michael Bendis’s Ultimate Spider-Man comics from the 2000’s. This presented us with an almost definitive depiction of teenage Spider-Man. The one thing I didn’t like about the 90’s Spider-Man series, (besides the budget animation), was that it felt grounded in the 80’s-90’s era Spider-Man comics. That era of Spider-Man is very hit or miss; and some of the choices that were made for that show, really shows nowadays. The fight scenes from that show were also horrible. Spectacular Spider-Man is the Spider-Man show.
@mar_speedman2 жыл бұрын
I dunno, I never detected any references to Ultimate Spider-Man. Spidey's best friend was Gwen, Green Goblin isn't mutated, Venom is an alien, Harry is very 60s 616... I dunno, well I guess Aunt May is as young as Ultimate Aunt May and Eddie was Peter's best friend. Those are the only similarities I can think of. (Other than Spidey being a teenager. That's the obvious one, but Spidey's a teenager in a lot of stories)
@darnayblue30812 жыл бұрын
@@mar_speedman Characters like Kenny Kong are from Ultimate Spider-Man. In Earth 616, Peter Parker doesn’t have friends in high school, and rarely socializes with his peers outside of the instances where he is being bullied by Flash. In Spectacular Spider-Man, he goes to school with Mary Jane Watson, Harry Osborn, and Gwen Stacy; like in the Ultimate Universe. In the main continuity, he meets those characters later on when he is about to graduate. He moves in with Harry Osborn when he graduates; that’s when he really began to start a friendship with Harry, MJ, Gwen, and Flash. The show combines Ditko and Bendis’s teenage Spider-Man years, because most people aren’t really familiar with the isolationist character that Peter Parker was portrayed as being in the original comics. He really only dated Betty Brant and basically tried to avoid Liz Allen throughout Ditko’s run; so by actually having him come across as an actual teenager, is pulled heavily from Bendis.
@eagle_klaw_ Жыл бұрын
@@mar_speedmane, there are a LOT of references to Ultimate Spider-Man in this show. 1. The fact that Harry, Gwen, and MJ all go to high school with Peter like they do in the Ultimate comics when in the 616 comics they never met until college 2. Gwen is basically just Ultimate MJ in this show. They took both versions of MJ and projected the classic version onto her shows counterpart and the Ultimate version onto Gwen, since their friendship throughout the show before they get together at the end is more reminiscent of his relationship with MJ in the Ultimate comics than his relationship with Gwen in any comic version 3. Eddie Brock is 100% based on Ultimate Eddie Brock. Nothing about this show's version of the character comes from the 616 version. He's a fcollege student working for Dr. Connors, he's Peters's childhood friend, and Eddie even talks in one episode about both of their parents dying in a plane crash together. All of this is straight out of Ultimate Spider-Man. They still kept Venom an alien like the original version, but that's it. 4. The episode where Tombstone tries to get Spider-Man to work for him is based on when Kingpin (who the show couldn't use due to rights issues) tried to do the same thing in the Ultimate comics 5. Otto Octavius working for Norman Osborn before becoming a supervillain is from Ultimate Spider-Man too 6. Kong is in this show, and he didn't even exist outside Ultimate Spider-Man 7. Kraven being mutated by a genetic experiment is another thing from Ultimate Spidey, since the classic version just uses some sort of jungle potion

@@eagle_klaw_ Wow. I really wasn't paying attention while watching the show! Also, I was expecting my familiarity with Ultimate Spider-Man to mean I would spot these things, but being less familiar with Earth 616 made a lot of these sail over my head, it seems.

The same moves and camera angles were used again at 7:57.

Spectacular Spider-man honestly took the best parts of the films and comics while doing its own thing with some characters like Venom, Tombstone, etc. Honestly it is probably one of the best interpretations of spiderman

just something to say, not all of these are Raimi references, some of them actually go way back to the comics. For example, the spider bite. Obviously, Peter was bitten by a spider to receive his powers. He wasn't inherited with his abilities. Otherwise, he might've not been the first Spider-Man. Just because it was in the Raimi trilogy doesn't mean it's a reference. However, the scenes that refer to the Raimi trilogy the most, I'd say would be the swinging sequences.
@meifungliew16374 жыл бұрын
Yeahhh,i mean like 80% of the fight scene in the cartoon doesn't look like the comic book fight sequence
@spidspodthedead4 жыл бұрын
@Simeon Petrov Well, when you look at it that way, it makes a lot more sense on why the scene was featured.

All of these reference the raimi films and i agree that the comics came out first but raimi mixed it up a bit or came up with his own scenes
@N0mad30053 жыл бұрын
@Simeon Petrov i mean they do that in danny phantom too, the only thing that makes it a reference is where the spiders are crawling across his dna
@N0mad30053 жыл бұрын
@@13.79 yeah but you have to realize that half of this is not something you’d put side by side to compare, more so be like, “oh i remember they did a scene similar to this in the movie” and then realize it’s bc it’s from the comics

When someone brings a universe to life it really becomes a foundation many other ideas will come from. Directors were influenced by comic drawings. They bring those to life and influence writers to create even bigger stories which then influences others and so on. And don’t forget it’s the combined imagining of all involved in the process that brought the Tobey-verse to life. It’s lightning in a bottle.
