I don’t like how ever royal nation has exactly two children and every royal has exactly two retainers. Fates did the same thing (but 4 and 4, two nations, same total) and it’s just so formulaic. Where are the middle children? The only children? It’s more interesting when the families and nations feel more authentic and individual. That gripe aside, I like the look of the cast and the diversity of classes. Looking forward to the game!

Well in terms of bloodline succession it makes it easier that you wouldn't get as much in fighting with a bunch of fucking kids. Even 3 kids would be hard to deal with since there isn't just a main heir and backup one.

Well there could be a possibility that maybe they do have younger siblings, if any not disapproven yet, that may be too young to really join their brothers and sisters with the war. But otherwise yeah I see what you mean, there’s more siblings in this game than Fates itself! Hopefully the supports are good between each set of Royal and non- Royal siblings.

I just noticed that the four hounds are all named after collours and all in french. Zepia a light brown, Gris is grey, Marni or Marron as her japanese name is french for chestnut so dark brown, and Mauve is violet.

That's definitely my biggest gripe with the retainers. I get what they're going for but 2 for each member of royalty really fills up the roster too much imo

I get what you mean, but story wise it at least makes sense. That is collecting the rings is the main quest, and most of them are owned by the various royal families, giving them a vested interest to join and supervise the use of the rings. And thus in turn you get their retainers. It also assures that most involved will be a cut above normal soldiers (not that Fire Emblem has ever needed justification for a random villager to grow into a god slaying warrior).

Now I know why people keep comparing this game to Fates. This game feels like the main cast is just going to be royals and their retainers like Fates. Don't get me wrong i'm liking what i'm seeing so far, but I love seeing common citizens join the army which is handled so well in other Fire Emblems. I just feel that having just royals and retainers makes the countries feel really small and could potentially all feel the same. It's kinda hard to make having a prince in your army important when there's like 5 of them.

haha this does feel like a kick in the shin to everything edelgard fought for. me personally, i donʼt mind too much because iʼm not her fanboy, but even i feel bad. the focus on royal/retainer is a bit excessive, although i get it what with the rings being in royaltyʼs possession. but man, the first kingdomʼs prince is quite literally a rewashed version of younger prince dimitri, and i can only imagine what will go down once you recruit edelgard.

When it comes to the designs of the Royals of the 4 kingdoms, my favorites so far are Diamant, Ivy and Celine, for the retainers the ones that look interesting to me are Lapis, Citrinne, Etie, Merrin, and Zelkov also Yunaka and Veyle look interesting as well, looking forward to seeing how each of these characters will be like

Citrinne is basically a minor Royal. She's the niece of the King by being the daughter of the Archduke and it's cousins with both princes.

Do you think that they're ever going to explain why the Solm retainers seem to be foreigners to their country, unlike all the other countries? If their goal was to increase visual diversity in the cast and expand the lore more completely, that would've been the perfect opportunity to do so. Or do you think that after they designed the prince/princess, they realized they don't know how to accurately design darker-skinned people while maintaining the visual style and stopped before they did any more damage? Three Houses had a lot of thought put into each character, so one would think they have a reason planned for this.

I get the sense the reason why we dont see any other native Solm's is because the plot for that land is a cout against the queen and the 2 royals are going out with their retainers to mediate/fight. Thats the only thing i could think of that would make sense to fit one of the trailers showing the player fighting against Solm soliders.

As a fan of Fire Emblem since FE7 this looks good, but I hope some time down the line they would release a game with a smaller cast, but each character is much more fleshed out and don't just have a couple of traits that is returning in each support conversation. I am currently playing Midnight Suns and I would love a FE game in that style.

I liked that you could recruit other characters in 3 houses but it felt disjointed to me. Build up a relationship and the kid will just say "screw the house I've been a part of I'm totally changing sides. Let's go teach!" and then there's no dialog post time skip when they meet/kill their former housemates. It felt kind of lazy. Think it could have been better if they'd had items/quest you'd find during missions or around the school that if you do that you unlock the ability to recruit them.

I think switching sides made sense during the Academy phase because to recruit a character you needed the stats and skills they wanted, representating that you're able to teach them what they want to learn Like for Felix you need good swords and strength, showing that you could teach Felix how to be a good swordsman. Where it didn't make sense was the War phase "Yeah this person taught me how to ride a horse properly, so i should definitely betray my friends and kingdom 😍"

@@mysticknight1494 I see your point. Honestly, and I loved 3 houses, the entire thing didn't make much sense. You and your dad save the kids so they make you the professor and not your dad. It would have made more sense to have you joined a house and then you can talk the other students into switching houses. I also don't think "this guy can teach me swords" is a good reason to abandon your house/friends. Though it make sense mechanically. IDK that's probably me nit picking. I loved 3 houses just had some issues with it but I see why they went the direction they did. Very excited for the 20th though.

they do have dialogue if they kill previous classmates and there are some lines that can be said in the monetary like dorethea mentioned to me about how we killed Ferdinand on the great bridge and linhardt said to me that some alliance members seem to be weary of him and it even carries to supports in my black eagles playthrough i recruited both sylvain and felix but not ingrid and in the A support felix mentioned something about ingrid no longer being with them

Regarding the character designs, There's only a few of them that I like. I love Jade's design (along with how a heavy armoured class looks like in this game) and Diamant's for sure! Seadall's, Kagetsu's, and Merrin's designs are also nice, but... yeah. Mika Pikazo, the designer, apparently does a lot of vtuber designs and it shows. I don't hate the art direction, but as I mentioned in another video the cast are divided into overly feminine girls and pretty boys (aside from Vander, lol) Give us more characters like Rinkah or Hinoka! Seriously, characters like Pannette look like a caster-type and not a berserker which is her starting class.

The dragon is likely gender neutral / enby and presents as female. The title is probably akin to something like woman king or pharoah where you don't change the title for gender. (or the gender is inherent in the generally masculine title) within their culture / lore.

(I think it's unlikely that Marni can be recruitable just by her looks though.)

Honestly Yunaka looks too similar to Anna for that to be a coincidence. It makes me think (not believe because we don't have enough info) that Anna might be a child character with Yunaka being her mother but I doubt that to be honest

I do wish certain characters were wearing more armor, but I do like the impression many of the characters are giving. Also, the fates style royals and retainers thing just feels bleh; I like when at least half the cast is not associated with royalty, whether they’re mercenaries, travelers/foreigners, or villagers/common folk. More characters could have darker skin tones as well.

Why do the vast majority of characters in your starting team look 10 to 16 years old? Can't the kingdom offer anyone older to protect the royals or Alear? Seems like a recipe for a failure. Also, a lot of the faces look exactly the same, like a handful of templates were used to create most of the characters.

Not gonna lie the designs are kinda boring. It's one of the main problems I had genshin where every single character is either anime woman, child, or twink. Where's all the big dudes with facial hair. They don't even have any beast type characters aside from dragons it seems. Though it is nice that we are getting darker skinned characters, even though their hair doesn't really match.

If you play on classic mode if your units die they are dead for good, for all your playthrough. If you play on casual mode they don't die permanently but simply retriet from the battelfied fot the current battle but you can use them in the next

I'd rather wait and play the game before saying anything. Character design-wise, I suppose most of the clothes match the country of origin. I don't mind there being a lot of retainers. I think it makes more sense there are this many. Think about it, the MC is a divine dragon, a being with lots of political and religious clout in their world. Makes perfect sense that the person you send to talk to said being is of an approximate, appropriately high rank. That's a sign of respect/courtesy in building international relations. What I do take issue with regarding the retainers is (I probably didn't notice it so I might be wrong) that there aren't enough mages. Most of them are knights or some other melee unit. The short blurbs for each of the characters are both too short and a little generic but because they're avoiding spoilers, that's to be expected.

No offense to the designer/creator, but I strongly dislike the outfits in this game. I've never been a fan of bright colors and loud designs and it all looks so gaudy. The hair and faces are good though. The characters backgrounds seem pretty cliche, but that's not a bad thing necessarily to me since some cliches can be enjoyable when done well. In general I thought these characters were pretty hit or miss.

The Sol Country is weird. The royalty is dark and no one else in the country is. The one sun blasted country has nothing but the lightest of people. Character design doesnt seem very cohesive with the story

I feel like they definitely haven't shown us all the characters yet. They've even specifically shown off the talk mechanic as a way to recruit certain units. yeah, itʼs a bit bothersome for me as well. i donʼt have the biggest gripe with the artstyle, even though the characters could stand to look less. . copypasted and gacha-like, but iʼm sure that iʼll grow into it as with anything once i get to know and grow fond of them. my concern is how childlike some of these kids look and apparently behave, too. it would be huge for them to have a post-skip appearance alongside a few changes to their personality, all the more so if there was a big conflict or war to justify the timeskip. that might also give the overly nice, kind and cheerful characters some substance once their innocence is challenged, yknow? thatʼd be cool to see. idk how iʼll feel if they remain as they are. all i know is that people will have a field day with genshin impact and vtuber comparisons.

@@hegluj6796 same here. makes it nearly impossible for me to view them in another light besides little children. pairing any of them up together would feel wrong, forced, misplaced. i really hope they have a dynamic personality if not a timeskip look. if IS was going for a more lighthearted and childish vibe with the characters, maybe they shouldʼve kept romance and war out of the game tbh these characters suit anime moreso than a tactical strategy game with adult themes and bloodshed. then again, having time periods of literal war already encourages the vast majority of the cast to be over 18 or 21 eventually. i donʼt see why theyʼd put pre-looking teenagers or children at the forefront as war generals, commanders, etc. that should be the exception, not the norm. over the years, weʼve been getting quite a few childlike characters in fire-emblem, and somehow 3H was where it found some balance while keeping things rather serious. itʼs cool if they want to branch out or go in a completely different direction, my gripe is that it no longer feels fire emblem-y but animesque instead, and i say this as an anime fan, too. having a bunch of kids with plots of romance and war, and outfits that seriously sexualise some of them? bothers the sh*t out of me.

After all this time since the leaks, Alear’s design is ironically one of my favorites, but that’s because I just do not like MOST of these characters designs (Timerra and Ivy really take the cake on that front), along with the General art style of this Game. I won’t say it’s too Anime, I WILL say it just looks too much like it’s all Plastic, as if I’m playing with Action Figures. If I wanted to play with Action Figures, I would just play Toy Soldiers. Despite this, I’m still getting the Game (mostly because it comes out on my Birthday, and due to the Routes of Three Hopes being atrocious to me) for the Gameplay and OST, hopefully the Story despite not being all that complex, will be told decently well, and the characters despite me not wanting to look at them, are written well.

Ephriam is also with Eirika's ring. They swap when you use them but Eirika is the lead The 3H lords are in DLC in their academy forms. Eliwood and Hector will prob appear later on as DLC

I find it hilarious that a lot of the people who are calling this game trash are saying it because they just do not like the art style Game isnt even out yet guys, take a chill pill and let the actual story/gameplay of the game be the deciding factor. Fates looked pretty good to me before playing then it ended up being not so good in the end. SoV has god tier art and OST (imo) but the gameplay fell flat.

I agree, people are already judging rhe characters from trailers even though we haven't seen the story nor supports, and even Fates had some good supports at the very least and even I doubt the characters and story will be as a bad as Fates tbh, I did see a couple of the Japanese cutscenes and Ivy seemed pretty subdued and down to earth personality wise despite her design so I'm cautiously optimistic. So far I'm just looking at the designs, and while the artstyle put me off at first there's a few designs I really like, like Lapis, Jade, Ivy, Vayle, and Goldmary for example

Its true, every new FE game people make (usually art related) judgments WAY too early and base their expectations for the whole game on art Which is... Not a reliable way of casting judgment on FE ever in my experience. A lesson i personally had to learn the hard way lol

When I saw this game when it was first announced I thought "this game was created so that we will have the ultimate Fire Emblem Warriors game with all the characters we ever wanted." @@ronanjager3829 Pokémon Legends Arceus is graphically between what the PS2 and PS3 were capable of, but it’s my favorite game in that series. Characters in Oblivion look like abominations if you touch basically any sliders on the customization screen, but that game’s beloved by many. Graphics, while somewhat important, are vastly overblown in _how_ important they’re considered, and it takes *a lot* for them to be actively detrimental to the game. I hate the art direction, and I think some of the designs are horribly unfitting for Fire Emblem, but my main concerns are with the gameplay and story.
