Minor correction: Windows 8 RTM, Windows 8.1 RTM, and Windows 10 do have a startup sound, but it's disabled by default, until you check 'Play Windows startup sound' in the Sound control panel, and it's the Windows Vista and 7 startup sound.

And don't forget to disable fast startup. With fast startup enabled, selecting "Shut down" from the GUI actually put your device in a hybrid of hibernation and shutdown rather than a full shutdown (next time you start Windows, open Task Manager, Performance tab, and you may notice the CPU up time continues on instead of resetting to 0:00:00:00).

Correction: Windows Chicago/95 Betas have tada.wav as the shutdown sound. Also, around the April Test Release, The Microsoft Sound was known as the Startup Sound and was kept for the final release for Windows 95.

I think I prefer the inaccurate one, the accurate ones somewhat gave me a headache for being repetitive (especially the transition from the calming Windows 2000/ME to Windows XP), now I see why the inaccurate one exists, ngl I love the accuracy, the Windows XP and Windows Vista/7 sounds remind me of my childhood, but I think the inaccrate version works for me (also the fake Longhorn sounds, Samsung, really? Can't believe I fell for that for the past 7 years of my life)
