At 47k miles my 2018 GT PP1 started having “delayed engagement”. When the transmission was warmed up and you put it in drive or reverse, it wouldn’t engage the gear for about 5 seconds then it would violently slam into gear. This symptom reminded me of older transmissions that were low on fluid. I checked the fluid level and it was fine. So I decided to throw a Hail Mary and service the transmission. After doing so, the problem has gone away completely! I’m at 52k miles now with no issue whatsoever. Ford says the service interval is 150k miles. Complete bullshit! I believe if you service these transmissions every 30-40k miles they’ll be fine, software issues notwithstanding.

@169abr3 ай бұрын
The 10r80 adapts to driving patterns, and adjusts god knows how many perimeters constantly based on what it sees you doing. Weird shifts, clunks into gear, jerking 3-4 and 5-6, all of these are symptoms that I’ve fixed by doing a KAM reset. If you don’t have access to one, pull the battery cable for about 30 minutes and it resets the KAM and the habits are forgotten. If the same issue persists immediately after resetting you probably have a hardware problem.

I've got a 2020 Explorer XLT 2.3L EcoBoost that has a 10-Speed Transmission. I've only noticed hard shifting several times while going up a hill a then when letting off the gas at the top of the hill it felt like it jumped about 3 gears! 😬 As I have driven the route multiple times after that, I didn't notice it happening again. Not sure if it had to do with my driving or if the vehicle computer system actually "noticed" the glitch, learned from it and uploaded the data to Ford via my Wi-Fi connection which I have my car logged into. Anyway, the way I see it, the combination/marriage of the transmission mechanics combined with the computer and software is Ford's "Intellectual Property", so they should be absolutely responsible for any after sales "tweakage" that is required to keep the vehicle running at factory baseline defaults as long as no aftermarket tunes & tweaks have been implemented.
@Red5oh2 ай бұрын
Yeah the 10 speed in multiple vehicles have been reported as quirky. Some have harsh shifting others experience a lot of gear hunting. I see your point and it would be great if ford made transmission updates free as they can do OTA update but of course dealerships have to make money so they will charge. Since yours is still under warranty I would get it checked to be on the safe side so you don't have to deal with it after warranty

2020, i bought used at 15k miles. I put 5k miles per month as my daily. She's at 30k now. On cold start, if the rpm is over 1k, if I put i to reverse, she would jerk hard. I have to wait till rpm is lowered to under 1k to not get the jerk. I have asked the forum Stang guys n they Said it's normal. Also goin up a hill, if I baby it, seems like the transmission will not engage into a lower gear so I can get more power. I mean in steep hills, I'm doing just 20mph slow and it just stays there but if I gave it more gas, she would go. Looks like these stangs do not like to drive slow. Even at the light and when it turns green, I would lightly go easy on the gas and other cars would just passed me on by. If I give it a little more gas, the turbo might engage and I don't want that. I drive normal mode with steering in sport+ mode because I like some resistance to my steering wheel. The first gear seems to like to hit the higher rpm off the get go so when the gear switches to 2nd, that is when I let go of the gas n baby her for inner city driving. Highway is another story. I loved the exceleration and transmission switches flawless. Think I'm due for a trannie fluid n filter change. The owner's manual was missing when I got the car so I dunno when to do tune up n all that but I read at 30k should do the transmission fluid n filter change. I do changed my motor oil n filter at 7k n air filter at 14k so every other oil change. I have extended warranty till 100k miles bumper to bumper. My window cracked so im trying to get the warranty to cover it for window stress. I might not get it as there is a little crack so it's not a manufacturer defect. $100 deductable on the warranty. Last time I bought in for suspension issues that I thought was the casual of my alignment n tire cupping but they found nothing. I was still charged $200 for diagnostic. This is why I'm hesitant to bring my car in even when I'm covered under the warranty.

Try changing out the transmission fluid to the better stuff like amsoil and it’ll be a night and day difference for sure , also tune with a transmission tune will help with the incorrect gearing ratio
@Red5oh2 ай бұрын
I don't think the transmission fluid change is due until 100k miles so I would probably avoid that. I think most people agree at this that the 10 speed transmission in general is quirky. All the issues you described have been experienced by stang owners. Since yours is under warranty I'd ask dealer to look into and most likely a software update will fix that like in my case. You may need to change your dealer as dealer shouldn't be charging diagnostic fees as it should be covered under the warranty

@@Red5oh the fluid you have in there stock is trash compared to amsoil lol , it’s a night and day difference in shifting when you replace the fluid , everytime I change to amsoil it feels like butter shift and you hardly feel it shifting cause the transition is so smooth and lubricant And it’s recommended every 50k mileage , you have a v8 , that fluid going to be dark by 50k mileage lol , my Mazda 2022 cx30 transmission fluid was dark at 40k mileage lol
