I really have to appreciate you pronounciation of all the names. No matter what language, you say it how it’s supposed to be pronounced and I really love that.

I feel like the more times you mention the same book in your videos, the more I feel like I need to read it. What a gift you have of persuasion, Emma! (see that Austen nudge there?) I would have never in a million years picked up the Illuminae Files on my own, but hearing you talk about it with such adoration has absolutely convinced me. I love anything that uses multimedia formats well.

Since I see you will be reading Solaris you MUST watch Andrei Tarkovsky’s adaptation of the novel!!!! It is one the most engrossing cinematic experiences I’ve ever had. Tarkovsky in general is probably the greatest director of all time - all of his films are imbued with themes of life and death, time and memory, and what makes us human. You would also probably love The Mirror as well (which is actually my favorite of his). I’m a major foreign film fanatic, so I will always be pushing my fav directors on readers lol

The people who say The Monk is a wild ride are correct. I couldn't put it down. I think for me the most disturbing part about this book is that it made me want to root for the Monk even though I knew what he wanted was immoral and that I shouldn't want him to succeed.
@rosemeadows6294 жыл бұрын
I kind of agree - I was hoping he’d realise some ‘sin’ is justified like in the case of Agnes :) sort of like being a more moral and human character but whoaaaaa what a trippy trippy trip

Once you read Solaris I'd definitely recommend watching the film adaptation directed by Andrei Tarkovsky!! He's probably my favorite director of all time and his films always stick with me. I haven't read the book yet but it's going to be one of the next books I pick up, because I love the movie so much. It sounds like the film is pretty true to the book, too. And if not, it's worth the watch anyway. I'm typically not a huge fan of sci-fi films but Tarkovsky is like nothing else :)

I highly recommend you to read The Monk and Steppenwolf, two of my favourites ! Almost psychedelic at times ! I'm impatient to hear your thoughts on those ! I want so much to delve in the Master and Margarita this year, I'm so hyped for it ! And you gave me the desire to read the novel of Mishima, I'm so intrigue by his work (I'm only read The Temple of the Golden Pavillon and The Sound of the Waves, so incredible !). The Autobiography of Red is translated in French this september, I'm here for it. PS : I'm sorry for my bad english, I'm just some French girl with poor language skills...

genuine question: I thought magical realism was an exclusively Latin American genre... idk i think I heard that somewhere? can Russian or Asian literature also fit in this category?
@frankiewitt59194 жыл бұрын
What I've heard is that the idea of magical realism came from Germany but didn't become an actual art form until much later in Latin America in the 1940s (I'm not entirely positive on that) so technically magical realism originated from Latin America (which you might've been thinking of) but that doesn't mean it is only strictly a Latin American genre. People from around the world write magical realism! I hope this helps and makes sense! I apologize if this is just a jumbled mess!! I am often quite garbage at explaining stuff.
