Also I want to share in your frustrarion of "Feminist retellings" that aren't really that feminist at all. I haven't read Lady Macbeth but last year I read The Witch's Heart and it's still under my skin...I don’t know how it's been called feminist when the main character spends most of her time hiding away in her home doing chores and/or taking care of her children, waiting for her no good husband to come home, constantly letting said husband say demeaning things to her and be generally aewul while immediately forging him when he kisses her or whatever, and ending the story with her pairing up with her girl best friend (which I have no problem with in concept of course but there was NO foreshadowing or buildup of romantic chemistry between them at all when there were plenty of opportunities to do so) and yet STILL cares more about her shitty ex-husband while completley forgiving his destuctive role by claiming he actually didnt have any agency and he's just like that uwu. Like I don't care that he's Loki this whole book completley gives the apparently most powerful witch in the realms no agency or anything interesting to do, auuuugh. TLDR; I Get It.

Bloom was/is one of my favorites of the sapphic genre. Gory, cheeky, and the ending made me cry.
@rachel1021Ай бұрын
Bloom made me so anxious. At no point did I see it as a "sweet sapphic romance." In my opinion there's a sense of dread the entire time. It's so good though and I liked it a lot. I'm glad your videos reminded me of how much I wanted to read that book.

As a non-fantasy reader, I think The Poppy War is great, and I love every bit of it.

The Cautious Traveller's Guide to the Wastelands is one of my favorite books of the year! I read it from the library so I'll be purchasing a copy for my collection - and the UK cover since it's way better than the US one imo.

I gasped when I saw "Heads Will Roll" by Josh Winning. I read "The Shadow Glass" by him for book club a couple years ago. It was probably one of the overall highest rated book club books we've ever done (we've done 1 book/mth for 5 years). Talking to millennials, if you want to get kicked with 80s/90s nostalgia and fantastical elements in your horror (imagine reading a book that feels kind of like "The Dark Crystal") then I can't recommend that book enough. It really caught us by surprise. (Also the book cover is made to look like a VHS case. SO cool!) This gave me the kick in the pants to go read his other books!

Hi Willow, I would love a signed copy of your book. I live in the Netherlands is this possible? Love your channel and can't wait to read your book.

Bloom sounds good. Shame about Terry. He is my book guru and I have all of his books in a special bookcase. Read them as they came out. So agree about Lady Macbeth. She is the real power in the play.

Absolutely LOVE Jeff Vandermeer (Have you read Hummingbird, Salamander??), and Authority was my favourite of the, at the time, trilogy. So excited for Absolution and what you have to say on it!

Put Heads Will Roll on hold at the library based on your recommendation, not expecting to get it until November at the earliest. It just came in for me, just in time for spooky reading for October. So excited to read it!

I wonder if Ava Reid’s intention was to write a feminist re telling of Lady Macbeth, or if it was a publicity thing that they came up with afterwards

On my TBR - Poppy War. Curious if you've read The Queue? It's a beautiful retelling of life and it's political consequence with an Authoritarian spin, think 1984 post-communism.

I've watched dozens of your videos over the last few weeks. I love your stuff. I'm a writer and could really use more eyes on my work. Right now I have three short story collections out in my Strange Phenomena series, as well as a vampire called When Vampires Attack. Is there any way for me to send you physical or digital copies of my books? They're all between 50 and just over 80 pages.
