@yseeemma2391 Жыл бұрын
@@h0tandspicy if you’re someone who loves fantasy, i would definitely give it a try. the world building is reminiscent of lord of the rings, very detailed and complex (which is why it’s such a long book). it’s slow at the beginning but it picks up speed relatively quickly (around the 100-150 page mark, which is typical of fantasy books in my opinion). if you’re someone who doesn’t like fantasy that much i probably wouldn’t recommend reading it though

I had a bit of a meh reading month. I reread four books and read four books for the first time. I enjoyed my rereads a lot which were The Empress of Salt Fortune, Earth: Giants, Golems, and Gargoyles (an anthology), The Priory of the Orange Tree, Toil and Trouble: 15 Tales of Women and Witchcraft. As for my new reads...there was only one I enjoyed which was the Complete Poems of Emily Dickinson. The Beauty of the Wolf by Wrey Delaney was a beauty and the beast retelling that focused more on the backstories to the beauty and the beast than the story we all know. It was beautifully written but so much so that the meaning was lost and as a result, everything in the book was underdeveloped and strangely paced. Stone Blind by Natalia Haynes was a retelling of the Medusa story (that is important to note. It is not Medusa's story, but the retelling of her story. And my problem here, is that it doesn't feel like it is her story at all. She is just playing a part.) I don't know if I can say my feelings on that book in a sentence. But I didn't like the execution of it or the way she chose to write it. I like what the story was, but how she went about it ruined it. Neon Druid, a Celtic fantasy anthology, I think I enjoyed. But it also was very forgettable.

Ninth House was my best book of 2022! I'm also reading Hell Bent right now and dragging it out because I don't want it to end haha. Thank you for giving the review for The Book of Night. I haven't seen any positive reviews for that book, but everyone just describes it as boring and doesn't really give a premise. They only describe the magic system because it was the one thing that they liked, and so I have a good idea of what it looks like. But I never knew what the book itself was about, and you know what, it sounds really interesting.

Your/Brittanys review of The Hunting Wives kind of mirrored how I felt about the Quicksand tv series and why I dnf'd that show. It has a toxic friendship and hunting guns. It didn't tank but became incredibly popular and every time I hear that melancolic song pink sky, I get sad and uncomfortable. This January, I am reading Outlander book 1, and Ironheart on Marvel Unlimited.

I would love a dark academia video from you. Will it be cool for me to drop a few recommendations of dark academia that I don't see around as much? Usually, I would give you a few other ones because in dark academia I am focused more on having academia in the book. I love seeing a passion for it, or it as a drive, or a main motivation of the characters or story. I love it being so wrapped up in these characters' lives they don't know who they are outside it. But some of these people don;t consider it dark academia because it is not set on a school campus. And it feels like you may more leaning more towards the other kind. So here: These Violent Delights by Micah Nemerever. This one I haven't read, but it is about a toxic obsession/relationship between two men attending university. I don't really know much more. Sirens and Muses by Antonia Angress. Once again I have not read this, but this is very high up on my tbr. This follows art students attending an elite art school, and them being drawn into a web of rivarly of the art school itself, and the art world outside. And there is that question of whether they will find themselves a place in the art world and succeed in their own careers, and what are they willingly to sacrifice of themselves to be able to achieve it. The last one is one that I have read. This is The Furies by Katie Lowe. This book follows a girl after a family tragedy. Her grades soared after homeschooling herself and she gets an invitation to an exclusive school. Because of her commentary on art she gets invited to a secret society which was founded by the same woman who found the school and was burned as a witch. She falls into a toxic friendship/crush and things just spiral from there. And all the while, at the beginning at the book, it reveals that a girl has died. This is the finding out of who and how.
