It was helpful to see these all in one lesson. I just wish I had found your videos when I first started learning French, because I didn't learn the articles with the nouns, didn't realize at the time how important it was. Now I find myself playing catch up trying to learn the genders of words. Thanks for another great lesson. Karen.

Happy New Year, Dylane, my best wishes for 2024. This is another great lesson, but I have a question. Why do partitive articles behave differently when describing the country that someone comes from? Du for masculine countries but only De for Feminine countries and not De La? We use Le and La for the country. La France or Le Portugal, but Je viens du Portugal (de + le) and je viens de France (de + la?). Many thanks.
@TheperfectfrenchwithDylane Жыл бұрын
That is a great question with a very poor answer! Unfortunately, it's just one of these rules that changes for a specific type of countries (feminine) 😅

It's all about being able to count them or not. Honestly, being able to differentiate them is not a big deal. Ask 99% of French speakers which one is it in a sentence and they won't be able to tell you ;)

i have a doubt the word which ends with e are feminine right so, when we say formage might be femineine right ?

In the sentence "Les chiens aiment jouer a la balle", why is "ball" singular, yet the subject (dogs) is plural? In English we would assume that dogs (plural) are all playing with different balls (not one ball). Is that just an issue of usage?

i guess you cant say "je me brosse mes cheveux" because you are already applying the action on yourself and its obvious that you are gonna brush your hair. its like negation in english. you cant deny twice in a sentence because its already understood that you negated once. thanks a lot for the last note you added. i didnt know when i was supposed to apply it
