What’s the best type of bike for bike packing? I‘ve got a pretty solid mountain bike, very light weight and 27 gears but anyone I‘ve watched on their bike packing journey has one of these road bikes. So are road bikes a must have or can I also do it with my mountain bike?

Something like a gravel/adventure bike im sure would be the best. Basically a road bike but with off road tyres.

The most important thing is that you're feeling comfortable on your bike, meaning that it fits you well and that you feel confident handling it. Of course, it also depends on the terrain you're planning to ride on and if speed is important to you. If you'd like to do some off-road adventures on your trip and you don't care about maximum speed, your MTB could be a really good and convenient choice. You could consider putting narrower tyres on to make for an easier ride, in case yours are a lot wider than 40-50mm
